Cochrane & Area Humane Society

Cochrane & Area Humane Society Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surgery, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

What an incredible weekend of books, baking, and community spirit!

Our Book & Bake Sale was one of our most popular community events of the year, drawing a fantastic turnout of supporters eager to shop, connect, and help animals in need. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the event raised more than $12,000 for the animals in the care of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

These funds will help provide food, shelter, medical care, enrichment, and daily support for animals waiting to find their forever families.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing sponsors, Pet Valu Cochrane and Pascal's Patisserie, whose support helped make this highly attended event possible.

To everyone who donated books, contributed baking, volunteered their time, attended the sale, and helped spread the word: thank you. Your support directly impacts the lives of local animals and gives them a second chance at finding loving homes.

We're already nose-deep in our new books and delicious treats, and we can't wait to do it all again next year!

šŸ“š What book did you take home? šŸ„ Did you discover a new favourite baked treat?

Today, we remember. šŸ§”

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never came home, the Survivors, their families, and the Indigenous communities who continue to carry the impacts of residential schools.

At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, we are grateful for the relationships we have built with Indigenous communities in our region. Through these partnerships, we have the privilege of helping provide veterinary care and support to animals who need it, and to the people and families who love them.

We know that animals are much more than pets. They are companions, family, protectors, and an important part of community. Caring for them is one small way we can show up, build trust, and strengthen the relationships we are so grateful to have.

Today, we remember. We listen. We learn. And we remain committed to building respectful relationships and walking the path of reconciliation together.

Every Child Matters. šŸ§”

šŸ¾ Happy Tail: Hector is now Brisket!

Brisket is settling beautifully into his new home, and it turns out, a few treats go a long way toward making a new place feel like home!

Heā€™s become comfortable in his new surroundings, confidently walking on leash and checking out his new community one sniff at a time.

Along the way, Brisket has been learning some important lessons: boundaries, good manners, and most importantlyā€¦ what NOT to chew.

Weā€™re happy to report that nothing was damaged that couldnā€™t be replaced!

With his newfound confidence and eagerness to learn, Brisket is well on his way to becoming the very best version of himself.

We love seeing our Happy Tails unfold, and weā€™re so excited to see where Brisketā€™s next chapter takes him!

You could be the best thing that ever happens to an animal in need.

Kingston may look rather serious in his photos, but donā€™t let that dignified little face.

Underneath is a young cat ready to play, explore and figure out exactly how much mischief he can reasonably get away with before someone notices.

Are you looking for a handsome young companion with a face you absolutely cannot resist? Meet Kingston at Cochranehumane.ca

Meet Sammy,
A sweet, resilient girl with a heart as big as her spirit.

Sammy has come a long way, from being overwhelmed and nervous to confident and outgoing.

She greets her favorite people with a happy wagging tail, enjoys interactive games, and loves spending quality time with those she trusts.

Sammy is also a proud tripod, but don't tell her she's missing a leg, she certainly hasn't noticed! Her three legs don't stop her from living life to the fullest.
