Teddy and Buddy Croak are ready for some fun in our Sunrise class today.

Today we will be exploring different instruments, singing songs, moving to the beat and reading rhythms. That’s right, we read rhythms in the first two classes!

If you are in the Cochrane or Calgary area and have a child 2-4 years old this is the class for you. Sunrise class is Thursday mornings 9:15-10am at Snap Dance Studio - White Studio (117 River Ave). It is a full year of fun and learning.

🍂 Fall is here 🍂

As the weather gets colder it is time to think about some fun activities out of the cold.

Come with your 0-4 year olds to a Family Music class at Snap Dance Studios.

This class is built for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. We sing, move, play instruments and create. Each class is filled with a variety of songs from different cultures, imitating rhythms and melodies, moving to music and lots of active music making. There is lots of movement and variety of activities bound to keep your child interested (and you as well).

Register for the full session or for a drop in. Classes run Thursday mornings 10:40-11:20am.

Children 2-4 have a natural energy where they are constantly singing and moving to a rhythm or beat. The Music for Young Children (MYC) Sunrise is an exciting and innovative pre-school music & movement program.

Teddy Bears help teach the children rhythms and puppet friends Buzz, Buddy and Mellow guide children on their music journey and instruction with singing, and ear training. The child-centred curriculum includes stories, songs, and games to ensure that all children feel and achieve a high level of engagement and success.

There are three blocks (or levels) to the Sunrise program. Sunrise Block 1, 2 and 3 - each 10 weeks in length taking students and their parents through a whole year of learning.

Each block builds upon the last, so as the child's foundation in singing, rhythm and ear training builds and grows, so does the curriculum.

Once a child has finished Sunrise, they are ready to move into the Music for Young Children (MYC) keyboarding classes.

When should children start group music lessons?

Famous Hungarian pedagogue, Zoltan Kodaly stated that the best time to start music education is “nine months before the birth of the mother.”

It is important to begin music early to instill a lifelong love of music making in children. However, children should not just listen to music but should be actively involved. Kodaly believed that folk songs should be introduced from an early age as these songs allow children to become familiar with their culture and others.

Rooted in Music offers a Family Music class that introduces songs from different cultures to babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers.

Why Group Music Classes?

1. Ability to learn from each other

Students don’t just learn from me. They start to teach and learn from each other building themselves up as competent musicians.

2. Developing a team mindset

Through creating and playing music together students learn that they are an important part of the group. Their practicing, playing and contribution matters.

3. Practice performing in a safe environment

Students build confidence as they get lots of practice performing in front of others.

4. Developing important social skills

Students build social skills such as taking turns, listening, cooperation, following a leader, working as a team and responding to others.

5. So much fun

The constant variety of activities, interactions within the group and extra energy that comes from group teaching makes these classes so engaging for students.

As a trained classroom music teacher, teaching groups is my specialty. Being able to incorporate effective music teaching techniques from Orff and Kodaly make these classes fun and effective for all ages.
