STUDENT HELPERS NEEDED!

Need some volunteer hours and want to support a local tradition? Northumberland Ribfest is embarking on a sustainable waste management system as part of its operations this year, trying to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste going into landfill, where it then produces greenhouse gases. Instead of all waste going directly into garbage cans, it will be dropped off at sorting stations on site. Volunteers are needed at these stations to make sure food, drink, plate and cutlery waste are organized with precision.

This could be a blueprint for how other large events are run in our community and is a hugely worthy cause.

Plant them and they will come. Bumble bees are loving the native Agastache and Monarda in the Wildlife Garden. It is neither completely wild nor completely cultivated, with beauty and ecological diversity working hand in hand. We’ve learned a lot about our Ontario natives, the species that require more maintenance and others better behaved. The garden will continue to evolve, adjustments made here and there, but at the moment, wander by the northwest triangle planters, sit on the edge, and soak it in.

Btw, the garden has not been watered since the plants were established three years ago.
