Centre sur la qualité du homard

Professor Jordan Park has been awarded a 5-year Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grant to study the impact of climate change and environmental pollutants on aquatic organisms. This fundamental research project will provide a basis for better understanding the effects of evolving environmental conditions on marine life, including commercially important species like the American lobster.

Working in the Lobster Quality Laboratory, located at Université Sainte-Anne’s main campus in Church Point, Professor Park will seek to identify toxicity mechanisms of marine pollutants, such as microplastics, nanoplastics and tire wear particles, on aquatic invertebrates when co-exposed to climate changes.

On behalf of the Lobster Quality Centre, we would like to wish everyone involved in LFAs 33 and 34 a safe and prosperous season!

Fait intéressent du vendredi ! Saviez-vous que le homard calicot et le homard moitié-moitié sont parmi les plus rares ? Ils sont nés ainsi et le restent jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient cuits ! Les couleurs de base des carapaces de homard sont héritées, tout comme la couleur des cheveux chez les humains et les autres mammifères.

Notre Centre de qualité du homard offre d'excellentes opportunités aux étudiants de l'Université Sainte-Anne de travailler avec notre équipe d'experts. Ce matin, nos étudiantes Micheline Thériault et Noelle Babin ont présenté les résultats de leurs recherches et de leurs analyses statistiques à une partie de l'équipe. Leur travail a porté sur la distribution du BRIX dans le homard et la chronologie des mues pour la prédiction de la qualité.

Our Lobster Quality Centre provides excellent opportunities for Université Sainte-Anne students to work with our team of experts. This morning, Our summer students Micheline Theriault and Noelle Babin presented research and statistical analysis results to part of team. Their work focused on lobster BRIX distribution and molt timeline for quality prediction.
