While in Churchill for the GENICE II experiments at the Churchill Marine Observatory, CEOS scientists visited the Duke of Marlborough grade 7/8 class for some hands-on fun in Arctic research. The students learned about ocean salinity and the significance of salt versus fresh water (by tasting it!), why sea ice has so many microbes, and also had an exercise oil spill response and detection. The students were fantastic participants--we think there are definitely some future scientists in this group.
