🚜 What a day in Heavy Duty Mechanical! 🔧

Our Summer Explore Trades students got behind the controls, explored heavy equipment, checked out diesel engines, and experienced firsthand what it's like to work in this exciting trade.

Hands-on learning is one of the best ways to discover new career possibilities, and these students were ready to jump right in!

Twelve weeks ago, these women stepped outside their comfort zones and into the trades. Today, they wrap up this chapter with new skills, increased confidence, and a community of support behind them. 💪🔨⚡

We couldn’t be more proud of everything they have accomplished. The future of the skilled trades is bright, and these women are helping lead the way.

The Summer Explore Trades Sampler program is underway! 🔨⚡🛠️ Today we welcomed a new group of students eager to explore careers in the skilled trades. We look forward to supporting them on their journey and seeing what they accomplish.

Real Baking for Youth Summer Camps are back at UFV Trades! 🍪

We are excited to welcome young bakers ages 9–12 and 13–16 this July for a hands-on baking experience at the Chilliwack Trades and Technology Centre.

Led by Red Seal baking instructor Shoshawna Blair, participants will learn kitchen safety, baking fundamentals, pastry techniques, and decorating skills while creating delicious treats in a fun and supportive professional kitchen environment.

Camp 1: Junior Bakers (Ages 9–12)
July 13–16, 2026

Camp 2: Teen Pastry Lab (Ages 13–16)

Cracklin’ Rosie” stole the show at this week’s Biochar Workshop! 🔥🌱

Built by UFV welding students, the charcoal retort was featured during a hands-on workshop led by Dr. Emily Samuels-Ballantyne in partnership with Earthwise Farm in Agassiz.

Participants explored several methods of making biochar, from traditional trench and pit methods to the impressive “Cracklin’ Rosie” kiln setup. The workshop created exciting conversations around regenerative agriculture, soil health, and innovative approaches to sustainable farming.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the workshop such a success — and special recognition to our talented UFV welding students for bringing “Cracklin’ Rosie” to life! 👏🔥

Participants in our Women in Trades – Explore Trades Sampler spent time in the plumbing section of the course, learning practical skills like pipe fitting, soldering, and assembly.

Building confidence, learning new skills, and exploring career opportunities in the trades — one project at a time. 💪

We had an incredible session welcoming SkilledTradesBC and BCCWITT (BC Centre for Women in the Trades) to speak with our students about opportunities in the skilled trades!

The presentation highlighted pathways, supports, and real-world insights into pursuing a career in the trades as a woman — encouraging confidence, curiosity, and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.

It was inspiring to see so much interest and engagement from the group as they explored what a future in the trades can look like. 🔧⚡
