5 Minute Movement Challenges to make Dance Class fun.
Todays feature is a cardio activity called Scrabble Scramble.
Age and Level: This cardio challenge is most suited for teenagers of any level.
Supplies: you will need a small bag of scrabble tiles. You can pick these up at any craft store, most dollar stores and places that sell small treasures. Hand onto them in your teaching tickle trunk for all sorts of other activities.
Team Organization: Split up your class into equal teams, you need a minimum of two teams, but four to six is a great number if you have a large class. Split them equally and have them make a circle facing inwards.
Set Up: Split up your teams into equal groups and in circles. Spread the bag of scrabble tiles on the floor around the room evenly.
Structure: On your go teams will start collecting tiles, anything they touch they must take. Some will be face up and some will be face down as they came out of the bag. They can strategically look for high scoring tiles or vowels or they can grab the first one they see, but what they touch they must take. To make the cardio longer dancers will go one at a time to collect and tile and return it to their circle. To make it go faster everyone can go at the same time. Once all tiles have been picked up off the floor the dance teacher will call out 5-6-7-8 Drop. At this time dancers must drop into mountain climbers or plank and start building their words. If you catch anyone cheating their mountain climbers or plank you can add a push up or reward. While in plank and staying in plank the team will create words with the scrabble tiles they collected. Give them time and count down such as 30 seconds. When it’s over stop, and then see the created words to declare a winning team. E
How to Win: There are actually several different ways to win and you can decide. For example, highest scoring word based on scrabble standards. Most original word. Most number of words combined. You can also make it a theme, like holiday words only.
