June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

The City of Chilliwack is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Stó:lō Coast Salish peoples. Please take some time to learn about Indigenous history, cultures, and contributions through the Rooted Waters video series, a tribute to the rich history and cultural significance of the lands around Chilliwack. chilliwack.com/RootedWaters

If you know me, or have been watching this account for a while, you know that I love Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). I first got on a SUP in 2014 and I fell in love. I became an instructor the following year and have been teaching ever since.

Paddleboarding is quickly becoming more and more popular - and for good reason! It’s fun, fairly inexpensive, it gets you outside and it’s challenging. However, there are some things that I see on the water that can lead to significant injury or death.

1. No life jackets 🤦‍♀️
Wearing a life jacket is not only the legal way to use a paddleboard, it’s the safest and the easiest way to avoid drowning.

2. Two or more people on a board 😳
Paddle in community, but do so one person to a board to respect weight limits. It will help you avoid capsizing. Or knocking each other off the board.

3. Stand UP! 🙏
It’s called a Stand Up Paddleboard for a reason! It’s more fun, is a whole body workout and allows you to see the sights in the water you wouldn’t get from the beach. Being on my board I’ve seen eagles, deer and other wildlife I would have missed from the beach.

Now you know, go out there and have fun! 💋

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to learn, connect, and celebrate the cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. One of the best ways to deepen your understanding is by attending Indigenous events and cultural experiences taking place throughout British Columbia.

Throughout the month, Indigenous communities, businesses, and organizations are hosting gatherings, powwows, workshops, performances, exhibitions, and cultural celebrations that welcome visitors to learn and engage in meaningful ways.

✨Mindful Mondays: The Power of Friendship ✨

Today, June 9th is ❤️ - a powerful expression of the importance of connection. For me, my friends closely follow the importance of my faith. They are all carefully chosen and carefully cultivated, many decades long friendships. I desire real, authentic, vulnerable connections with the women in my closest social circle and connection is where we can support each other and lift each other up. Reciprocally.

John Mark Comer identifies the importance of relationship (in his book “Practicing the Way”) when he says: “…it’s in relationships that we are formed and forged” while, at the same time acknowledging, “Our deepest wounds come from relationships, and yet, so does our healing.”

Today I acknowledge the amazing women who are walking alongside me, and me for them. They are strong, and weak. We make good decisions, and not great ones. We raise our children (or pets) together. We share our highest mountains and deepest valleys. We are human. We forgive, and we love. And we lose. And above all, we have each other’s backs. Thank you 💙

The gift of friendship is one of the best blessings we have in this world. Tag a bestie to let them know how much you love them and lets flood insta with love today.

National best friends day, the power of connection, women supporting women, women’s friendships, hallelujah, healing friendships, babes supporting babes, women, friendship, mindful Mondays, Christian women, proverbs 31, blessings on blessings, female friends.
