When I saw Lauren’s Lauren Ireland | Singing Teacher post, I laughed out loud, then immediately thought of all of YOU. 😂💜 She graciously gave me the green light to put my own spin on it, so go show her some love!

Because here’s the thing, studio fam: this job is my absolute joy. I get a front-row seat to your brave moments, your breakthroughs, and yes, your flop era too. A little throwback to SingOut this past June 🌈🎶

Would you agree that singing together can make us feel more connected, like we belong to something bigger than ourselves?

For a community that has spent generations being silenced, hidden, or told to make ourselves smaller, there’s something pretty awesome about a room of q***r people taking up space with their voices… even if it’s a small room.

Singing in front of other people can also feel pretty vulnerable, especially when it’s not something you normally do or necessarily feel gifted at. But I noticed it didn’t take long before I felt completely at ease because we were all experiencing that vulnerability together.

For those of us with a church background, collective singing can also be connected to something both beautiful and sorrowful. A couple of us talked about how much we missed singing because it had been such a big part of our lives before needing to leave those communities, or being pushed out of them. Being able to experience that again, but in a space where our q***rness was fully welcomed, made SingOut feel even more meaningful.

Hey beautiful human!

After a truly outstanding winter and spring, we are finally shutting it ALL the way down for our annual studio summer hiatus from August 1st to September 7th, 2026.

Some things I'll be doing while I'm not plugged into studio communication channels:

- becoming one with the rocking chair on my deck while reading the latest Dungeon Crawler Carl book.
- eating a ridiculous amount of local ice cream
- gently swaying in my hammock or floating in my wading pool
- wandering aimlessly around my garden deadheading flowers and eating raspberries

There will be no access to any email, text, voicemail, messenger or carrier pigeons during this break, but as always, I will be SO happy to connect with you upon our return to the office, Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

We were speechless today to learn that after a beautiful performance last night while fighting a fever, studio Kai Yee WON the Intermediate Classical Voice class !!!

This is her first year in the Intermediate category, after winning the Junior Classical Voice class last year.

Kai Yee is a beautiful young singer, with so much musical and artistic sensitivity, who rises to the challenge of her rep every single time. She is curious and funny, and so smart! It is an honour to be her teacher, and I am so deeply proud of everything she has accomplished so far. I can’t wait to see what’s next!! 🤩💕🤩💕

Huge congrats to our first Festival participants of the season! Classical Voice is now complete for these two studio !

Second place for her French Art song
First place for her 20th/21st Century Art Song
First place for her German Lieder

Next up is VKMFestivals Musical Theatre with Kai Yee and Kathy starting Monday in Vancouver! We can’t wait…

Still to come this season: JRD Voice Studio members are participating in local Festivals all over BC. In addition to Duncan (CMF) and Vancouver (VKMF) singers are getting ready to slay in Terrace (PNMF), Victoria (GVPAF) and Langley (VAYA Live), so stay tuned for that!!
