Chief — 18 years of quiet leadership.

Chief has been part of Voice for the Horse for nearly two decades, not as a symbol, but as a steady presence. As our longtime mascot, he has walked alongside children’s stories, music, and moments of learning — offering calm, consistency, and trust without ever needing the spotlight.

His way of being reminds us that listening is not about instruction or control, but relationship. Head lowered, breath steady, fully present — Chief teaches by example, showing how safety and connection are built over time.

Amazing how far and wide we travelled back in the day from the efforts of one children's wild horse writing competition! Update: we are bring VFTH back to like in the next short while. Our viewers can look forward to seeing our newly published e-book of collection of wild horse stories coming soon!

U.S. Army — Clackamas, Oregon

While riding at Island 22 this week, Karen, Chief, Pieta, and I had the privilege of meeting a remarkable group of young men and women from the U.S. Army.

They are here training far from home and presented themselves with such gratitude, warmth, and respect. One of them looked at Chief and said, “He looks just like Joey from the movie War Horse,” and my heart just swelled. 🐴💛

As a small tribute, this video is for you, Lisa, and your whole squad — a reminder of the spirit that lives inside every horse, every dreamer, and every team who faces challenges together.

“Leading Your Way” was inspired by the legendary racehorse Seabiscuit — a horse who was underestimated, overlooked, and yet rose to greatness through heart, grit, and unshakable will.

Your courage and unity carry that same spirit.
