This post is not about the effects of the October 7th attacks on Israel or Gaza about what the West's reception of those attacks says about our societies.

Going to be putting out a ton of material on social media over the next twenty-four hours. I begin with my chat with Michael Geoghegan, my friend of twenty-nine years with whom I spoke on September 13th about BC politics and the larger Crisis of the West.

A bunch has happened since the interview. The podcast he was thinking of launching is out and Kerry-Lynne Findlay, our preferred BC Tory leader has been deposed.

I will neither seek nor play, even if asked, not that that would happen, any role in upcoming federal, provincial or municipal elections for the foreseeable future.

The reality is that our social movements need help with analysis, education and cultural and institutional strengthening. Those are areas where I can constructively contribute and can do so through organizations I have built and that run based on principles and processes with which I am comfortable.

I also have a tremendous amount of writing work to do and I want to get back to campaigning on conservation issues, something one can only do outside the formal political process at this point.

The defeat of Kerry-Lynne D Findlay marks an end to my short four years of working in conservative electoral politics in Canada and my thirty-five years in Canadian politics.

We have very little time. Too little, ironically, to continue these endless shortcuts and hail Marys. So I am going to be focusing on expanding my work as an educator and analyst and recommitting to my memoirs, George Gibault Institute and Walafrid Strabo Conservation Society.

I am a BC Conservative loyalist and KLF supporter with the zeal of the newly converted but let's be frank: this is a house that is built on sand.

Fundamentally, what I bet on in 2024 and was not wrong about was that John Rustad was the man of the moment. People looked at him and said,

"John Rustad seems angry and confused. I too am angry and confused. Perhaps I should vote for him."

It was just a variant on the Toronto politics a decade and a half ago.

"Rob Ford is drunk and on drugs and people are really hassling him about it. I too am drunk and on drugs and wish people would stop hassling me."
