A great citizen of City of Chestermere-- she gave us so much, and will be missed!

Former Mayor Elaine Peake did more than witness Chestermere’s history. She helped make it, lead it, and preserve it.

From reporting on some of the Summer Village’s earliest Council meetings to serving ten years on Council, including five years as Mayor, Elaine helped guide Chestermere through an important period of growth and change. She also preserved the stories of the community through her journalism and her work on Growing Through Time: Stories of Chestermere Lake.

Elaine passed away peacefully on September 27 at the age of 101, surrounded by her family. Flags at City facilities will be lowered to half-mast in recognition of her extraordinary service to Chestermere.

Elaine once said the most comforting part of Chestermere was being known here. She was known, she was valued, and she will be remembered. Our deepest condolences go to her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched.

A beautiful sunny day to unveil the NEW benches sponsored by the Western Irrigation District www.wid.net and installed by City of Chestermere Parks Department under the watchful eye of Mark Terstappen. Pictured with the bench located at the SW corner of the dam are Jen Peddlesden, Brian Sander Sr. Manager Operations WID, Bill Peddlesden, Ricardo Zablan and Sam Reid who installed the benches, and Chestermere Manager of Community Operations for Parks, James Blair. The other bench can be enjoyed at the North end of the pathway through John Peake Park. A sincere thank you to WID for this gift to Chestermere and to City of Chestermere for installation --making a walk around Chestermere even more comfortable!

Chestermere Women's Crisis Society - CWCS is holding 'Light the Night' 6:30 pm to 8:00pm on Saturday September 19th https://www.facebook.com/share/1BsuagfkMm/ and CHF has submitted a decorated lamp. The decopage celebrates the women who in the early days of City of Chestermere 'took care' of each other and provided a warm chain of support for each other. Here is the tag on the lamp. "Since the early days of settlement in the Chestermere area, women have supported one another through organizations such as the UFA, Red Cross and Chestermere Hall Board. They helped with family crises, baking, sewing, childcare and many other needs. They gathered in person, sometimes travelling miles over rough, rutted roads, and later stayed connected by telephone on a party line, where everyone could hear the conversations. One very long ring signalled an emergency and brought everyone to the phone. Among the women who contributed to the well-being of their neighbours were Mary Jane Brown, Jean Belyea, Jeanette Sunderland, Lida Ellis, Bessie Woods, Ethel Brown Carlyle, Veda Webster, Mabel Barker, Frances Hodgson, Joyce McElroy, Agnes McKenzie Lester and Mary Barker. Every spring CHF Members do an 'historical' outing, so on Tues June 16th 10 members visited The Military Museums. Thanks to our tour host, Logan, we had an extensive visit to the PPCLI display, and a walk through of the Naval Museum. One of our gang, WWII Veteran Elmer Friesen, who was accompanied by member Ken Friesen, was able to connect with another WWII Veteran Bob, who was volunteering at the Museum.
