Speed dating, Biology style! Today, Mrs. Johnson’s Grade 11 Biology class got to know cell organelles through Cell Organelle Speed Dating! Students stepped into the role of different organelles, sharing their structures and functions. Who knew learning about cells could be such a perfect match?

Students are working hard to prepare for our “Optical Opponents” Art Show on Thursday November 12. Students are exploring the concept of “ops” as opposing forces and juxtaposing their chosen portrait with Op Art illusions. Today at John McGregor Secondary School:

Our Indigenous students took on two projects for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. An outdoor display was completed in collaboration with students and staff. The display consisted of orange shirts with messages of empowerment and positivity about culture and identity. The display accompanied the chalk mural created by students and staff on the front walkway.

The second project was done by our Indigenous Student Council. Four presentations were created for grades 7/8s, at one of our feeder schools. The elementary students engaged in presentations on topics surrounding National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The goal was to share about what the day meant to indigenous people and their descendants and how we move forward as a community. The day was a great success, with leadership and community taking on initiatives to honor Residential School Survivors

Today, our Panther community came together to honour the survivors of residential schools, the children who never came home, and their families.
Our orange shirts are a visible promise to remember, to continue learning, and to actively participate in reconciliation every day.

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation tomorrow, our Art Department created a chalk mural inspired by the extraordinary work of Mushkego Cree Artist & Illustrator Hawlii Pichette of Urban Iskwew (.iskwew).
We extend our deepest gratitude to Hawlii for allowing us the privilege of using her artwork as our inspiration. We encourage you to check out her page to continue your learning. Just like the piece that inspired us, our mural features 94 flowers, each representing one of the 94 Calls to Action put forward by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
We hope this artwork encourages our school and broader community to reflect, learn, and take meaningful action.
