Prince Edward Island has announced a brand-new long-term care facility in Cornwall, set to open in 2029 — adding even more beds and increasing the need for trained healthcare workers across the Island.

The demand for Resident Care Workers (RCWs) is already strong, and with more facilities and beds continuing to open, there has never been a better time to start your training.

The Government of Prince Edward Island announced that 80 new private long-term care beds will be developed in Cornwall to help meet growing demand and improve access to care for Island seniors.

The Mount Continuing Care Community has been awarded the contract to build Cornwall’s first long-term care facility, which is expected to open in April 2029.

Last month, we had the joy of celebrating a very special moment in our RCW (Resident Care Worker) Program as students graduated from the program.

With openness, curiosity, and a willingness to grow, they began their journey in October. Throughout the program, they developed not only essential healthcare skills, but also a deep understanding of care including empathy, patience, and respect.

It has been truly meaningful to see their growth and dedication throughout the program.

A big thank you to our guest speaker, Wendy Holland for coming to speak with our RCW class on Friday about the importance of self-care as a caregiver. It was such a meaningful and eye-opening discussion that reminded us that in order to care for others, we must also take care of ourselves.

The presentation was extremely inspiring and provided valuable insight into maintaining balance, protecting our mental health, and preventing burnout in the caregiving profession. Thank you for taking the time to speak with our class and for sharing your knowledge, experiences, and encouragement with us.
