I can relate to Montgomery!!

Lucy Maud Montgomery had a deep love for gardens, flowers, and trees. Gardening was not simply a pastime for her, but a source of joy, solace, and creative renewal. After completing her daily writing and household duties, she often found comfort in working among growing things, once describing it as “taking a hand in creation.” This love of gardens also found its way into her writing, where flowers and garden settings often formed the backdrop for some of her characters’ most meaningful moments.

In her journal on May 18, 1913, Maud captured the happiness her garden brought her after years of doing without one:

“We have been gardening furiously since housecleaning was finished and I am besottedly happy in it. My tulips and daffodils are out most beautifully ... it is the daffodils I love - especially the sweet ‘poet’s narcissus’ and the little starry jonquils. My garden is such a joy to me. I had to go without one for so many years and now I’m quite drunk with the joy of having one again.”

In tending her garden, Maud found not only a source of happiness, but also a place of restoration, imagination, and peace.
