This summer marked the first official meetings of our new Physician Leads, a team of accomplished physicians and medical educators who will help shape UPEI's future independent Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. From admissions and curriculum to learner well-being, social accountability, clerkship, and postgraduate medical education, their expertise will help build a program that's made by PEI, for PEI.
This is just the beginning of the next chapter in medical education. Meet the incredible physicians helping lead the way and learn more about their roles at: https://medicine.upei.ca/physician-leads/

We were honoured to dedicate a portrait of Dr. Chester Bryant Stewart, a physician, educator, researcher, and visionary leader from Prince Edward Island whose influence helped shape medical education across Atlantic Canada.
His legacy continues to inspire future generations of physicians studying at UPEI. You can see the portrait in the Dean's suite at the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre.
Today, we welcomed 20 new learners to orientation at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University PEI Regional Campus at UPEI.
All from Prince Edward Island, this second cohort is preparing to begin their Doctor of Medicine journey.
Today was all about getting oriented, meeting classmates and campus staff, and becoming familiar with the place they’ll call their learning home for the next 10 months.
We’re excited to welcome them and to see where their medical education journey takes them. 🩺

Did you know that for decades, women were largely excluded from clinical drug trials?
At University of Prince Edward Island , advancing conversations around women's health is a priority, and through our community engagement work, Islanders told us it is for them too. That's why we're sharing this excellent video from our friends at Healthcare For Real a Canadian Medical Association project that helps demystify Canadian healthcare.
In this video, Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe explains the history behind why science stopped testing many treatments on women and how that decision continues to influence healthcare today.
If you find this video informative, be sure to follow our friends!
