Today is Veterinarian Appreciation Day ! We are so happy to have Dr Jackson and Dr Foley working with the Chinook Project in Port Hope Simpson this year !
Provides free veterinary services to remote communities in Canada's North Donations to the project can be made through www.canadahelps.org .

The team has arrived and completed their first busy day of clinics! If you have a pet needing basic veterinary care - you can go to the clinic as a walk in , or contact us if spay/neuter services are needed

MEET THE TEAM: Abby Newcombe (AVC Class of 2027) was born and raised on Prince Edward Island. After working as a registered veterinary technician for the past six years, she found herself drawn to small animal medicine and is particularly interested in continuing her DVM career in general practice and emergency medicine. She has a crazy orange cat named Sir, and in her spare time enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring different places on the island. Abby is very grateful to be a part of the Chinook team this year and looks forward to being in Port Hope Simpson this June!

Emily Shen (AVC class of 2027) was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Growing up, she always had such a love for animals and is so grateful to have the privilege to pursue her passion in the veterinary field. Emily's main interests are in small animal emergency, but she is also enamored by horses! Emily has one dog and three cats (for now), and during her free time, she loves to spend as much of it outside with her fiancé and her animals, exploring this beautiful island. She is so excited and honored to join the Chinook team this year!

MEET THE TEAM: Sam Berube (AVC 2027) is a 4th year veterinary student at AVC who is thrilled to be working with the Chinook team this year. He grew up in the northeastern U.S. but is happy to currently call Prince Edward Island home. Sam loves being outdoors and hopes to join a mixed-animal clinic after graduation. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys running, cooking, playing guitar, and spending time with his cat. He looks forward to continuing to learn and working with a great team in Port Hope-Simpson this June!

MEET THE TEAM: Ryan Subject (AVC class of 2027) is a 4th year veterinary student at the Atlantic Veterinary College, who is originally from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland. He has a passion for small animal medicine, with a special interest in surgical oncology and orthopedics. Outside of veterinary medicine, you’ll find him somewhere on a golf course in the summer, or snowboarding on the slopes in the winter. He has a beautiful wife, Brianna, and three fur babies: Roxy (dog), Sidney (cat), and Pepper (rabbit). Ryan is grateful for the opportunity and looks forward to being a part of the 2026 Chinook Project team.

MEET THE TEAM: Abigail Penney (AVC class of 2027) is from the beautiful west coast of Newfoundland and is currently a fourth-year veterinary student. She is excited to be part of the Chinook team travelling to Port Hope Simpson this June. Abigail appreciates the diversity of veterinary medicine and enjoys working with animals of all shapes and sizes! In her spare time, she likes spending time outdoors hiking and camping, as well as in the kitchen baking and cooking.

MEET THE TEAM: Kate MacEachern, RVT, BSc. is travelling on the Chinook project for the second time this year. Kate is originally from Saint John, New Brunswick. She graduated from Oulton College in 2013 from the Veterinary Technician program and upon graduation moved to PEI. She worked casually in the VTH at AVC while she completed her BSc. in Biology at UPEI in 2017. She worked in a few different areas of the VTH until she found her forever home in the surgery and anesthesia departments. Kate loves to travel with veterinary medicine and has been to Central America, Mexico, Nunavut & NWT and Labrador, and cannot wait to add to that list! Kate lives in PEI with her husband Jason along with their dogs Georgia and Texas and cat Felix. In her spare time Kate loves to bake and sew. She and her husband love to golf and kayak in the summers and ski in the winters.

MEET THE TEAM: Dr. Peter Foley grew up in Prince Edward Island. He trained at the Atlantic Veterinary College and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, and is now a veterinary specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. He has taught at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island for the last 22 years. During that time, he has helped lead Chinook Project Teams to Cambridge Bay and Kugluktuk in Nunavut; and to Nain, Sheshatshiu, Postville, and Natuashish in Labrador. He enjoys the challenge of providing veterinary service in remote communities. He lives on PEI with his wife, son, and two Siamese cats. He enjoys bagpiping, biking, and fountain pens. Dr. Foley will be one of the veterinarians leading the team in Port Hope Simpson in 2026.
