I am so proud of this dedicated, hardworking adult piano student, Kendra, who recently obtained her official Royal Conservatory of Music Level 9 Certificate! This involves the completion of 3 exams: Piano, Harmony, and History. I am Kendra's piano teacher; she studies theory/harmony with Charlottetown-based teacher, Dr. Amy Simon; and completed the RCM History Course on-line. In addition to Kendra's unwavering commitment to her musical studies, she also has her two children taking piano lessons with me, and Kendra herself, is also offering piano lessons in her hometown of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador.

Congratulations to two PEI music students who each received 1st place in the Developing Artist Stream (18 years and under category) of the National Music Festival - Federation of Canadian Music Festivals as they represented PEI Kiwanis Music Festival. So lovely to see these two talented students excel in their disciplines! I am also Holly's piano accompanist, so this is especially heart-warming to me as I have worked alongside Holly on this incredible journey of music-making!

Super proud of my student who achieved the exceptionally high mark of 95 on his Royal Conservatory Level 7 piano exam! I loved reading the examiner's final comment, "Congratulations on your highly musical and beautifully prepared examination. It was an enormous pleasure to hear you play today. My very best wishes for your continuing musical studies and your musical future." and how this type of summary encourages students to strive for their best and to continue a path of life-long excitement for music!

By far, Carl Mathis was one of my most cherished teachers! I learned so much from him in theory, counterpoint, composition and choral techniques classes as well as a piano accompanist for many voice students in his studio at UPEI Department of Music. I have fond memories accompanying the university choirs, especially the Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure, under his direction. In juries, he would always have a pleasant and encouraging smile on his face! It was so comforting! He had a great sense of humour, and often shared stories with us students in the cafeteria at lunch. I enjoyed catching up with Carl for many more years after graduating. And in July 2019, Carl became an Honourary Life Member of the PEI Registered Music Teachers Association as he had been a charter member. He will be missed by the PEI and UPEI Department of Music and PEI Registered Music Teachers Association communities very much.
The UPEI Department of Music extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Carl B. Mathis, a beloved faculty member at UPEI from 1972 to 1997.
Carl was an exceptionally kind and caring educator, choir director, and mentor to generations of UPEI students; a well-respected colleague; and a tireless and encouraging leader of various choirs across PEI. His witty sense of humour and penchant for story telling will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
His legacy as a musician and pedagogue will be carried on by all who benefitted from Carl sharing his passion for vocal and choral music.

Piano Love! Some very sweet & thoughtful cards and gifts from my lovely students. Some of the messages include:
"Thank you for sharing your patience, your expertise, and your love of piano. We are so thankful for you!"
"I love doing piano lessons with you! Piano is very fun, but you make it even more fun! You're the best piano teacher I could ever ask for!"
"Thank you for the amazing piano lessons. Thank you for all of the time and effort you have put into them. You are an amazing piano teacher, and I can not wait for more piano lessons with you!"
"Thank you for another wonderful year of music and fun! It has been wonderful to watch X's love of music grown with your guidance and I can't wait to see what the future brings!"
"I surprisingly had a lot of fun doing RCM and preparing for my exam, even though I said I never would. It was so much easier to breeze through it with a good teacher to help me. Thanks for another great year of piano."
"Thank you for teaching me this year. I ❤️piano."
" Thank you for being so kind to me! Your very patient and nice to! If you weren't my piano teacher I'd ask for a different one. See you this summer!" (That was the cutest ever!)
"Your encouragement for music and artists mean alot to me."
"You have such a delicate touch on the piano. Your accompaniment is like sprinkles on a cake. Adding sparks and colours to the soloist."
Very honoured to read these thoughtful messages from students in their own words. So lovely!

This is the 3rd year in a row that my on-line students from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador, have attended my in-person studio recitals in Charlottetown PEI! What a lovely family! I love their dedication to come see me in person for lessons once a year and my end-of-year recital. Kendra started lessons with me in March 2022, and then her oldest son began in September 2022. The younger son had his first lesson yesterday!
