New eligibility rules are now in effect for asylum claims made on or after June 3, 2025.
These updates are intended to help keep Canada’s asylum system strong, fair, and focused on providing protection to those who need it.
🔹 Key change:
Asylum claims made more than 1 year after a person’s first entry into Canada after June 24, 2020 will not be referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB), even if the person has left and returned since that time.

In collaboration with the Justice Avenues Program, PEI Connectors hosted Immigration Law Clinics in November in Summerside and Charlottetown.
We were pleased to welcome Sara Espinal Henao from Grace Allen Immigration Law, who met with temporary foreign workers, entrepreneurs, and families. She took the time to provide clear, practical advice to help clients navigate their unique immigration situations.
Our clients have already shared how valuable this support was and how much they appreciated having access to this service.
A big thank you to Sara and to the Justice Avenues Program for working with us to make this possible. 💙
