🔨❄️ Look what came back out! ❄️🔨

Our trusty hammers made their return! Our friends had SO much fun discovering and rescuing the bugs frozen in ice last time that this activity was highly requested again. Of course, we listened—but this time, we added a little twist! 👀

Can you spot what we added? 🧂 SALT!

We provided the children with some spoons and salt, and their curiosity immediately took over. They began sprinkling the salt onto the ice and, to their surprise, noticed that the ice started melting! Through hands-on exploration, the children discovered that salt helps melt ice, making it quicker and easier to free the bugs trapped inside. 🐛❄️

We absolutely LOVE when the children become so engaged and excited about an activity that they ask to do it again! It gives us the perfect opportunity to bring back a familiar experience while adding, changing, or removing materials to extend their learning and encourage new discoveries. 🌿✨

We love following the children’s interests and watching their curiosity lead the way! ❤️

🌿 Today’s Adventure! 🌿

Today we headed out for a walk in our community and had such a wonderful adventure! Along the way, we got to stop and say hello to one of our friends who isn’t at daycare today, and they even gave us directions to a brand-new park in the area that we hadn’t discovered yet! 🛝🌳

Of course, we had to go check it out! The children had so much fun exploring the new park, climbing, playing, running, and enjoying all the excitement that came with discovering a new place. We even enjoyed a little picnic together for lunchtime, making our adventure extra special. 🧺☀️

We also want to take a moment to say how ever so grateful we are to the incredibly generous family who gifted us two new stroller wagons! ❤️ Your generosity and support mean so much to us and our daycare community. We know these wagons will be put to very good use as we continue heading out on adventures, exploring our community, and making wonderful memories together. 🌲🚶‍♀️🛒

🫐🌿 A Berry Special Morning at Deep Roots! 🌿🫐

The other day, we discovered something so exciting right along the trails beside our daycare… fresh wild blueberries! 🫐✨ So, this morning, we went on a special little walk to see what we could find and pick.

The children had SO much fun searching through the bushes and picking their very own blueberries! Along the way, we learned that the green berries aren’t ready to be picked yet and that we need to look for the beautiful blue berries that are ready to enjoy. 💙🫐

This little adventure is also helping us prepare for a very special class trip we have planned for later next month! 👀🫐🌲 We have a feeling our berry-picking adventure might be giving you a little clue… Can you guess where we might be going? 🤔

After bringing our berries back to Deep Roots and giving them a good wash, we enjoyed the sweetest afternoon snack—fresh wild blueberry pancakes made with the berries we picked ourselves! 🥞🫐💙

There’s nothing quite like learning, exploring, and enjoying the delicious rewards of nature! 🌿✨

One of our favourite kinds of art activities as educators are the ones where we have a vision for the finished project, but the children have the creative freedom to make it uniquely their own.

Today’s ice cream art was the perfect example! 🍦 While the overall outcome was an ice cream cone, each child brought their own ideas and creativity to life. Our educators prepared the cones and cherries, but the children painted their own scoops of ice cream and were encouraged to place each piece wherever they felt it belonged. No two creations were alike, and that’s exactly what made them so special.

Activities like these are also such a beautiful reminder that art is about the process, not perfection. You can really see each child’s developmental journey shining through. Our younger friends created wonderfully abstract masterpieces full of exploration, while our preschoolers showed more structured designs as their fine motor skills and artistic confidence continue to grow.

We love creating opportunities where imagination takes the lead, individuality is celebrated, and every masterpiece tells its own story. ❤️

There’s nothing better than an activity that sparks new learning and grows right alongside our children’s interests! 💚

After having so much fun rescuing the worms from the ice with hammers, we decided to build on that excitement with an artistic twist. Today, our little learners used their hammers to crush colourful chalk into a soft chalk paste, creating a unique painting experience that let their creativity shine while continuing to enjoy one of their favourite tools!

It was amazing to watch each child explore, experiment, and create their own beautiful masterpiece. Activities like this remind us that learning doesn’t end when an activity is over—it evolves into new adventures inspired by the children themselves.

We can’t wait to see where these hammers take us next! 🎨🔨✨

🎉 Happy (early) 2nd Birthday, M! 🎉

What a wonderful day celebrating our sweet friend! We had such a blast at M’s pizza party, and it was a huge hit with everyone. The children loved sharing a special lunch together, celebrating with their friends, and making such happy birthday memories.

Thank you so much to M’s family for providing the delicious pizza and helping make today such a fun and memorable celebration. We truly appreciate your kindness and loved celebrating this special milestone with you. Wishing M a very happy 2nd birthday filled with lots of love, laughter, and fun! 🎂🍕💙

🪱❄️ Saving the Worms! ❄️🪱

Our little friends were hard at work this morning rescuing worms trapped inside giant ice blocks! Using child-sized hammers, they chipped away at the ice, strengthening their gross motor skills while practicing patience, problem-solving, and teamwork.

There were so many smiles and cheers with every worm they “saved.” It was such a fun, hands-on way to spend the morning, combining learning, movement, and imaginative play. What a wonderful adventure! 💚

Our little artists were hard at work this morning creating their very own self-portraits! 🎨🖌️

The children had so much fun squishing the paint between their fingers and watching with excitement as they smeared colourful paint all over their paper to create their masterpieces. There were lots of smiles and giggles throughout this sensory-filled activity!

The best part? Seeing everyone’s faces proudly displayed on the wall outside! The children were so excited to spot themselves and their friends, making this experience even more meaningful.

This activity was a huge hit, and we can’t wait to see what our little artists create next! ❤️

Our little car wash was a huge hit! 🚗🫧

Our friends had so much fun using warm, soapy water to wash and scrub the toy cars—and before long, the tables got a sparkling clean too! What started as a simple activity turned into hours of endless fun filled with splashing, scrubbing, laughter, and teamwork.

Water play is a wonderful way to encourage imaginative play, cooperation, and the development of fine motor skills, all while keeping cool on a warm summer day. We can’t wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings! 💙☀️
