Monday was our first ped day of the year! We worked on our day care banners, painted some corn, made some bracelets, played some soccer, did some gymnastics and spent some time playing outside. It was busy and it was fun!

We want you to know just how much you are appreciated! Thank you for everything you do each and every day to keep our school clean, safe, and welcoming.

Your hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it certainly does not go unnoticed. From the countless little things you take care of to the extra care you put into making our school a wonderful place for our students and staff, you make such a difference in our school community.

We are so lucky to have two such kind, hardworking, and dedicated people looking after our school. Thank you for all that you do, for always helping when we need you, and for being such an important part of our school family.

!!!!Final reminder!!!! Tomorrow, Friday October 2nd is the last day to order Terry Fox shirts.

We unlocked the third (free choice of Phys. Ed. class) and fourth goal (Ms. Bouchard in a costume)!!!

A BIG shout-out to Ms. Angel Horn, our newly hired and first-ever Indigenous Liaison! 🧡

Ms. Horn made today’s special performance and beautiful banner possible. Every student added their handprint, with those of our children from Kahnawake outlined in black.

🪶 Sharing Culture & Tradition at St. Will

This was such a special moment at St. Will. 🧡

Today, two of our own students, Tahoe Watsakohwatsironni Montour (Grade 5) and Ho’nigoñhewa:neñh Lahache (Grade 6), shared the tradition of Haudenosaunee smoke dancing with our school community — and we couldn’t have been prouder of them!

Before they danced, we also had the opportunity to learn a little more about their Kastowas and the meaning behind them.

A Kastowa (also spelled Kastoweh or Gustowa, pronounced Gus-stow-a) is a traditional fitted feather headdress worn by men of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Iroquois).

🪶 Tahoe is from the Mohawk Nation and is Turtle Clan. His Kastowa has three upright eagle feathers, representing that he is from the Mohawk Nation. Tahoe has been smoke dancing since he could walk!

🪶 Ho’nigoñhewa:neñh is from the Mohawk Nation and is Snipe Clan. His clan originates from Onondaga, so he wears an Onondaga Kastowa, with two eagle feathers — one upright and one pointing downward. He has been smoke dancing for approximately two years.

There is something pretty amazing about watching our students stand up in front of their peers and proudly share their culture and traditions with all of us. These are the moments that make our school community so special.

A huge nia:wen to Tahoe and Ho’nigoñhewa:neñh for sharing a piece of who you are with us. We loved watching you dance, and we were very, very proud of you both. 🧡🪶
