❄️🐾 FUR FACT FRIDAY: THINKING ABOUT KEEPING YOUR DOG’S COAT LONGER THIS WINTER? 🐾❄️
As the temperatures drop, we hear this one a lot:
“I want to leave my dog’s hair longer so they stay warm!” 🥶🐶
And yes, a longer coat can absolutely be an option for some dogs during the colder months!
But here's something important to remember:
✂️ LONGER HAIR STILL NEEDS REGULAR GROOMING! ✂️
Keeping your pup's coat long doesn't mean you can stretch out their grooming appointments. In fact, longer coats can be more prone to tangles and mats, especially with winter moisture, snow, dirt, sweaters, blankets, and everyday play.
Once those mats become severe, they can be difficult to safely remove and may mean your groomer has to take the coat much shorter than you originally planned. 😭✂️
🐾 Want to keep that fluffy winter look? Here's how to help!
✨ Keep up with regular professional grooming
✨ Brush consistently at home
✨ Make sure you're brushing all the way down to the skin—not just the top layer
✨ Pay extra attention to areas that tangle easily, like behind the ears, armpits, legs, and sanitary areas
✨ Keep your pup's coat clean and dry
✨ Talk with your groomer about the length you'd like and how to maintain it between appointments
🥶 AND ONE MORE WINTER MYTH…
“My dog is shaking because their haircut was too short!”
Not necessarily! 😂❄️
Sometimes they're shaking because… it's cold!
A longer haircut can provide some additional warmth, but it doesn't make your pup immune to chilly temperatures. Indoor temperature, wind, moisture, and how much time your dog spends outside can all make a difference.
So this winter, choose a coat length that works for your dog, their lifestyle, and their grooming needs—and remember that regular maintenance is key! 🐶❤️
