Wow! Congratulations to our friend Peter on this well deserved award! We look forward to working with Peter and the tech crew at the Lougheed every year and can't wait to hear how he brings our production of Frozen to life this November! 🎶🎉
WE ARE NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING (OR IT'S JUST A STRAY FREQUENCY)! 🎧🎉
While most of the audience never gets to see them, our technical team works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep every show you come to see beautifully lit and crystal-clear. The work our crew does is so incredibly vital to the success of every single performance—without them, we’d quite literally be lost in the dark, or the incredible stories on stage would go completely unheard!
We are so ridiculously proud of our production tech crew, and honestly? We jump at any chance to brag about them. Please join us in giving a massive round of applause to our very own Head of Sound, Peter Kwong (aka the ultimate "Audio Daddio"), for being named the recipient of the 2026 Mayor's Arts Creator Award! 🏆✨
From Toronto to "The Ears" of Camrose
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Peter is the youngest child of legendary figure skating commentator Pj "The Voice" Kwong (who also happens to be the pre-announcement voice here when you come see a show!) and Patrick Kwong, and brother to Caroline and Amanda. In the family, he's 'The Ears', son of 'The Voice'!
After graduating with honours from the Humber College Theatre Production program in 2012 and completing a prestigious Work Study at The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2013, Peter brought his 15+ years of live event industry experience straight to Camrose, Alberta.
Fun fact: Peter’s very first day on the job was August 11, 2014—meaning he was in the building dialing in soundboards before our doors even officially opened! Now a proud Camrose resident for over 12 years, he shares his life with his wonderful wife Marie, their daughters Adelynn and Rosalie, and their beloved furry chaos-makers, Barkley the dog and Phyllis the cat.
By The Numbers: A Decade of Sonic Magic
What does over a decade of behind-the-scenes dedication look like? Let’s check the soundboard:
🎛️ 21,000+ hours dedicated to the arts in Camrose
🎠1,000+ shows and events mixed to absolute perfection
🎓 Frequent collaborator and instructor for CITT (Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology)
When he isn’t shaping acoustic perfection for his personal favorite performers—like the Derina Harvey Band, Jeremy Fisher, and Jim Witter—you can usually find him dominating the local pickleball courts or passionately cheering on his ride-or-die Toronto Maple Leafs (hey, nobody's perfect!).
Peter, thank you for making us sound amazing, keeping our stage running smoothly, and ensuring our audience never misses a single beat, joke, or note. Camrose is luckier than ever to have your talent, dedication, and humor behind the soundboard.
Drop a comment below to congratulate our favourite Audio Daddio on his well-deserved 2026 Mayor's Arts Creator Award! 👏👇 And check out this week's Camrose Booster to read up a little more about him!
