Festive advent pocket calendars done! They can use them for the last few days before Christmas and then haul them out next year for December 1st. They can spend all year making things to go in the pockets šŸ¤£šŸŽ„

I’m loving the energy and enthusiasm of these two women who have ambitions to get sewing for their kids. We’ve started with ā€œsimpleā€ pajama pants which include several elements - sewing with knit fabric, getting the size correct with our slim fitting pattern, choosing the appropriate stitch on a regular sewing machine, attaching elastic, adding cuffs. Not necessarily so simple when you are a beginner. These turned out beautifully and the joy was real 😊 Next up - sewing with the serger!

I’m playing catch up on posting! Check out these sweet curtains made out of a thrifted fabric for her studio doors. Great job on the measurements (the hardest part of curtains) and the stitching!

Check out this gorgeous little coat made by Kim . This was carefully pieced and beautifully finished. She has many one of a kind, custom children’s garments posted on her page. Kim has recently started creating these original garments which are just adorable. There will be more to come! .

The Taylor Swift effect has arrived at Sewing by the Sea. Two students are working on projects to wear to the Vancouver concert. First up - a sparkly pair of sequined shorts to be paired with a diy t-shirt not pictured here. Second - a generous Mom making a custom designed bomber jacket from vintage blankets for her adult daughter. That’s love!

Grandma is sewing for the grandkids again. ā¤ļø I love that she selects patterns where she’ll learn something new and refine her skills. Sewing a knit placket can be tricky but she conquered it!

Can you feel the excitement?! Having not sewn since grade 7, this student is getting excited about the possibilities of upcycling fabric and garments. This was a great start.

This fun new student is a true beginner, finally putting her dream into action. She shared very sweet memories of watching her Mom sew when she was a child. It’s amazing the muscle memory she retained, not from actually operating a machine, but just from watching her Mom’s movements ā¤ļø

Aaaand I’m back! The studio is up and running again now that my fractured wrist is generally on the mend. I welcomed these two lovelies yesterday who warmed up their sewing mojo with these cute little pin cushions.
