Think macro and micro.
Where am I in the big picture? Think ridgelines, valleys, peaks, lakes, passes, and your overall route.
But also what's around me now? How do I best get over, across or around it? Think trail junctions, cairns, terrain features, bearings, and the next 50–100 steps.
Both are important. Big picture keeps you on route. Small details keep you on track and your travels smooth.
Keep your vision and take a close look. Both will keep you safe and found.

It's mountain time for the fall cohort!
Vancouver Islands mountain ranges provide us with an amazing learning ground.
Plenty of off trail navigation.
Plenty of ups and downs.
Granite, basalt, marble.
Steep terrain, snow and ice.
Wilderness, wilderness, wilderness.
And lots of options for the perfect progression.
This is where skills get tested, confidence gets built, and the learning really comes alive. From reading terrain and finding the best line, to moving efficiently through challenging mountain environments, every day brings something new.
The fall cohort is ready to get out there, get a little uncomfortable, and embrace everything the mountains have to offer.

A lot happens between the first day and the final certification.
Every challenge becomes an opportunity to grow, to build confidence.
We are so grateful for everyone who chooses to step beyond their comfort zone, to embrace new skills. It takes courage to try something unfamiliar, to support your teammates, and to keep going when things get challenging.
The transformations and trajectories that unfold are one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Congratulations to everyone who has been part of the journey—of the just freshly wrapped up semester.
