Another Monday, another opportunity to spotlight one of our childcare providers.

Oummara offers a completely separate child care space within her home, creating an environment that is thoughtfully arranged to encourage children to explore, investigate, and learn. She sets up her space with materials and experiences that invite children to wonder and ask questions, while offering a balance between child-led free play and adult-guided discovery.

Oummara enjoys spending time outdoors with the children at their local park. These outings give children plenty of opportunities for gross motor movement, sensory exploration, and social play, while allowing them to experience and investigate the world around them. Whether they are running, climbing, collecting natural materials, or simply noticing what is happening around them, Oummara uses these everyday experiences as opportunities for learning.

Music, songs, and word play are also a big part of Oummara’s program. The children are encouraged to sing along, repeat words, and follow actions, turning familiar songs into opportunities for language development, coordination, memory, and self-expression. These moments bring a lot of energy and connection to the day, while giving children a fun and natural way to build their communication and physical skills.

Oummara’s program gives children the opportunity to move between quiet exploration, active play, and guided learning throughout their day. By creating an environment that encourages both curiosity and connection, she supports children in becoming confident learners who are comfortable exploring their ideas and expressing themselves.

It is Play-Doh Day! ✨🍎

Get ready for a day full of squishing, rolling, moulding, and creating! 👐🏼🌈
Play-Doh is such a fun way for little ones to use their imaginations while building those fine motor skills along the way. We can’t wait to see what they create! 💛

Today, one of our providers set up a fun water table with colourful water, an ice cream pretend-play set, and pom-poms! 🍦
Adding pom-poms to water play has always been a big hit with the little ones. They had so much fun exploring, scooping, and creating with the different materials. 🤗
And here’s a handy tip from our provider: after playtime, the pom-poms can be tossed in the washer and dryer with bibs and face cloths, and they puff right back up! 😊

Mondays Spotlight is Shirlon! Shirlon consistently demonstrates a deep understanding of child development and approaches every child as capable, competent, and full of potential. She thoughtfully meets each child where they are developmentally, adapting her support to their individual strengths, needs, and interests. Her daily routine is calm, predictable, and well organized, providing children with a strong sense of security while allowing flexibility to respond to their unique needs.

One of Shirlon’s greatest strengths is her unwavering determination and commitment to every child in her care. She never gives up when a child is facing a challenge, instead patiently trying different strategies until she finds what works best for that individual. She is highly inclusive, ensuring children of all abilities are supported, encouraged, and given opportunities to succeed and participate fully in the program. Her responsive, relationship-based approach creates an environment where every child feels valued, respected, and capable of reaching their full potential.

One thing that always stands out during my visits is the children’s excitement to share their learning. Whenever I arrive, they are eager to show me a new song they have learned, a new skill they have acquired, or something they are proud of accomplishing. Their enthusiasm and confidence are a reflection of the positive, encouraging environment Shirlon has created, one where children feel celebrated, capable, and excited to learn.

Rainy days are the perfect time to get creative!
One of our providers put together this simple activity box, and the kids have been having so much fun with it! They’ve been using their imaginations, working together as a team, and practising those fine motor skills.
And for some reason, the Q-tip poking into the Styrofoam has been the ultimate favourite! 😂
Sometimes the simplest activities are the biggest hits! 💕
