The municipal election takes place this October 26 - are you prepared to vote? Join your ward town hall to hear directly from your ward's candidates and what their priorities for our city are. A mayoral town hall will also be taking place September 24 and another for Regional Council on September 22.

When Sarah Beveridge, a parent from our St Margaret's child care centre, approached us with the opportunity to collaborate on an art piece for the Cambridge Centre for the Arts exhibit at City Hall, we embraced the chance to build meaningful connections between our program, families, and the wider community. Sarah shared her vision of creating a willow tree with children's handprints representing the leaves. She brought in the materials to begin the project, and the children enthusiastically participated by helping to paper mâché the tree trunk with their own unique, painted handprints.

This project reflects the principles of How Does Learning Happen? by fostering Belonging, Engagement, Expression, and Well-Being. Children experienced a strong sense of belonging as they worked alongside educators, their peers, and a family member on a project that would be shared with the broader community.

This experience strengthened our partnership with families by recognizing Sarah as a valued co-constructor of learning. Her willingness to share her talents and ideas enriched our program and demonstrated how families can play an active role in children's learning experiences. Displaying the finished artwork at City Hall gave children the opportunity to see themselves as active citizens and contributors to their community, reinforcing that their voices, creativity, and participation have value beyond the classroom.

We are a proud partner of the Cambridge Anti-Hate Partnership. This project is bringing residents, community organizations, small businesses, and governments together to identify what is working, where gaps remain, and what actions we can take to prevent and interrupt harm. On July 25th, our partnership team will be at the Emancipation Day Celebration in Soper Park from 12-5 pm. Come by and help shape a practical plan for our city.

YWCA Cambridge is thrilled to be the operator of the brand new child care centre co-located with the new joint-use elementary school, shared by the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB)* and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB)*.

*Note: Children must attend the respective schools to be eligible for the extended day programs.
