Mount Pleasant Potters Guild

MPPG is an inclusionary group of potters, based out of Calgary, AB who aim to learn and create together.

The Mount Pleasant Potters’ Guild works to provide unique ceramic educational opportunities and to support the North Mount Pleasant Arts Centre in maintaining a premier facility for ceramic artists of all levels to learn and create together in a supportive environment.

Two weeks to go until our weekend works shop with and we are so excited to have them join us and share their work.

Trudy will introduce foundational techniques for working with cellulose-reinforced clay, commonly known as paperclay, that highlight its unique properties and advantages. She will share practical tips for hand-building and press-moulding that emphasize surface/form integration, structural integrity, and creative flexibility.

During the workshop Paul will focus on photo-documentation as the last step in finishing an artwork; a necessary one that, in our increasingly busy schedules, is all too often neglected. By focusing on the basic principles and methods, Paul will assist you to develop the ability to see beyond the artwork and into the image.

Please save the date for our next event at North Mount Pleasant Arts Centre. We have a particularly exciting weekend workshop in January with two presenters, Trudy Golley and Paul Leathers.

Paul will focus on photo-documentation as the last step in finishing your artwork. He will demonstrate how to set up your photoshoot simply and inexpensively and help you see beyond your work and into the image. He will also take you through developing a digital image from a black & white drawing and uploading an .STL file to a 3D printing service to create a 3D printed clay tool.

Trudy will introduce techniques for working with paperclay. She will share practical tips on hand-building and press-moulding. You will learn how to use silhouette templates to quickly generate personalized forms and to add complex textures and surface details. Trudy will also demonstrate how to create lightweight press moulds using PaperPlaster.

Dan Labutes is a professional chef turned studio potter living in Medicine Hat. He earned a BFA with distinction in Ceramics from AUArts in 2019 and until recently was the Studio Technician at Medalta International Artists in Residence. Dan focuses on functional work to explore and counter aspects of our society that so heavily relies on mass-production.

Dan will be demonstrating accessible ways to throw big.

With huge gratitude we want to thank everyone who came out to our annual Christmas pottery sale. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.

We are so lucky to do what brings us joy and one of our favourite things to do is share our passion with others.

To everyone who supported us along the way. To our family and friends who we bounce ideas off of and share our kiln opening ing excitement with. To everyone on social media who liked, commented and shared our work. And to everyone who came out to support us at the sale we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
