Today our FMCC Senior Leaders visited Bethel Happy Daycare Inc. to spend some time playing chess with the children at their summer camp. It was a fun afternoon filled with chess activities!

We were also happy to donate five chess sets to Bethel Happy Daycare Inc. so the children can continue enjoying chess after our visit.

A big thank you to our Senior Leaders—Aarya, Rohan, Ryan, and Sophia—for volunteering their time and representing our club so well. We are proud of the leadership and kindness you show, and of your willingness to give back to our community.

A special thank you to Victor for reaching out to us and inviting us to be part of the campers’ summer activities. We truly appreciate the opportunity and the warm welcome.

Our Senior Leaders will be back again on Thursday for another chess session, and we look forward to continuing to give back to our community through chess and other volunteer opportunities in the future.

Today, July 20, chess players around the world celebrate a game that brings people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds together.

At Fort McMurray Chess Club, we are proud to help young players learn, improve, compete, build friendships, and develop confidence through chess.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦♟️

Some moments from the Canadian Junior Chess Championship in Calgary.

After 7 rounds and 4 long days of classical chess, our players still had energy for last night’s 9-round Blitz tournament — and everyone had a lot of fun!

FMCC players joined in the Blitz U1800 Junior section. Congratulations to Muneer for placing 1st! 🏆 Shiloh placed 4th, Jackson 7th, and Sophia placed 9th and received Top Girl. Hasya also had a good fighting tournament, including a draw against a strong player.

Aarya also had a great volunteer experience as an arbiter for the first time at a big chess event. Way to go — future National Arbiter! 👏

Between the serious tournament games, our FMCC players are also enjoying some fun bughouse games together! ♟️

Friendship makes the tournament experience even more fun, and FMCC hopes to encourage more players to explore opportunities to travel, compete, and enjoy chess together in the future.

We wrapped up our 2025–2026 school year with our final Let’s Play Chess event! ♟️

Thank you to all our members, families, and community supporters for being part of FMCC this year.

We also recognized our senior leaders for their contribution throughout the year. Special congratulations to Ryan and Shiloh for taking on coaching roles during our Friday online sessions.

A special recognition was also given to Shiloh, who is graduating and heading to the University of Alberta. Thank you, Shiloh, for being a great liaison among our advancing students and inspiring them to keep studying and improving in chess.

A big thank you to our coaches, WIM Agnieszka Matras-Clement and Paul Clement, for their continued guidance and support.
