Alberta Dance Theatre is where young artists don’t just perform – they co-create, collaborate, and let their wild ideas loose.

It’s a training ground for bold ideas, real skills, a little bit of a magic, and lifelong confidence.

We are thrilled to welcome back Conrad Belau to our Creative Team! Last year Conrad adapted Interstellar Cinderella alongside the Youth Artists. They facilitated character ideas, inside jokes, and demands for a million dollar prop budget into a heartwarming and joke filled script our Youth Artists could play with.

This year Conrad will join our Youth Artists in interpreting a wordless graphic novel. Together we'll brainstorm different ways to bring voice and movement to the characters.

Head on over to our website to learn more about Conrad and next Fall's show!

We are proud to offer a Scholarship and Bursary program that helps alleviate the barriers to participating in ADT for returning and new Youth Artists. It's important to us to keep ADT as accessible as possible for families for years to come!

This fall we are lucky to have Jessalyn Reimer return to ensure our costume and prop creation is seamless, feet are sockless and pointed, hair is tidy, and we are reaching our full potential as dancers and performers. Jessalyn is thrilled to be exploring the world of The Wanderer this fall! Learn more by visiting our website!

Jessalyn has had a lifelong passion for dance. She holds a B.A. in Contemporary Dance with distinction from the University of Calgary. Upon graduation, Jessalyn trained with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks Professional Training Program for three seasons. She has danced professionally with dance theatre company kloetzel&co. where she performed in Professional Series, Toronto’s Dusk Dances, and in the full length work "The Alice Odyssey.” Jessalyn was also a Corps Bara company member as well as company manager. Independently, she has had the opportunity to perform and choreograph in dance events throughout Alberta and B.C, has self-produced three full length shows CrossCurrents, and co-created the dance company ESIRA. Currently, Jessalyn is Co-Artistic Director and Co-General Manager of Alberta Dance Theatre: a youth dance theatre company which produces full length productions with professional artists. She continues to teach youth and adults across the community, specializing in contemporary and jazz dance.

Youth Artists at ADT never get lost in the crowd, on stage or in rehearsals. Every voice is valued and invited to create, express and contribute. What we share onstage every November is uniquely ours!

Auditions for next fall are on June 28, 2026! Head on over to our website to learn more about the ADT process!

Registration is open for our next Audition & Dance Workshop! This is a great chance for youth in grades 1 -12 and parents to learn more about ADT while having fun and meeting members of our community.

ADT is not a training program. We focus on creation and performance! Our fall program caters to those wanting to learn more about a professional rehearsal process, contribute to a full production, and explore their creative voice. It's prop making, script writing, collaborative and multidisciplinary storytelling.

It's also inspiring! ADT Youth Artists take more dance classes and seek out more acting opportunities year after year. Grow your confidence and your skill set this fall with ADT!

Show Announcement Time! We are honoured to announce we are adapting The Wanderer by Peter Van den Ende this Fall!

This is a wordless graphic novel about resilience, loneliness, and connection. The illustrations are achingly beautiful and have deeply inspired Jessalyn and Alicia. We cannot wait to share this book with our Youth Artists in the studio!

In The Wanderer a fragile paper boat sails the stormy, violent, and dangerous seas but, despite the sometimes treacherous and bleak situations, the boat makes it! We are hoping this story feels very true to our current Youth Artists who, despite living in a word that can feel much too big, and when you feel adrift, we remember we can make it to our destination with more friends and valuable experiences.

We are so excited to start experimenting with props (how many paper boats can we make?!), characters (whales, fish pods, seahorses, villainous factory owners), movement (seaweed, stars, celebration), and so many oceanic costumes!!

We are still looking for Youth Artists to join our season. The next Audition date is June 28, 2026. Head on over to our website for more info!

This year's show image is thanks to Amanda Ho!

Audition #1 is done! There was lively discussions, collaborative brainstorming, and discovery through improv! It was sharing our movement with each other and seeing if an audience could interpret the movement as story, character or setting.

We are always adding tools to the creative tool belt!

Next chance to audition is June 28, 2026! See you then!
