Life Update!

Hey Mamas and friends,
I hope you’re having a wonderful summer!

I want to let you know about some changes in my life and practice.
As many of you know, I re-licensed for my RN a few months ago. While job searching has been challenging, I am happy to report that I do have a job working as an RN to support families in their home with baby overnight (and during the day) to help parents get the rest they need and the peace of mind knowing they’re under the watchful and experienced care of an RN.

This is the way I never knew I wanted to support families. Also something that I would have definitely used when my son was a baby!!

I am still coaching Mamas and women, however it is in a more authentic way in that those who find me and truly want coaching to become the woman and Mom they want to be. I am using a sliding scale for payment for coaching, as I never want a Mama to feel they need coaching but cannot afford it. We rise by lifting each other up along the way!

If you or a family you know might benefit from day or night RN support for their baby, please DM me for more information. I am not the owner of the company, I am one of their contractors.

If you or a friend have always wanted some life and motherhood coaching, but thought you couldn’t afford it, ↗️share this post with them and
📤DM me and we will figure something out!

These last few months, I’ve been applying for jobs and getting the occasional interview…I am still coaching, however, the need for a steady income and health benefits is real!

This time around, as a midlife Mama getting back into the workforce, has been quite the journey. One thing I know for sure…I never would have been able to handle this level of “rejection” before learning and embarking on my own journey of emotional regulation, somatic mindset shifts, and learning that “failure” is really an opportunity for learning and self-discovery.
20 yr old me would have given up this job hunt and the “No’s” drag her down weeks ago…or settled for the first employer who would take her even if the hours were awful.

I would never be where I am today, if I hadn’t chosen to shift my perspective and let go of perfectionism all those years ago.

I would never have been able to say that I am proud of myself for keeping on going despite the rejections, today.

No matter where you are, always remember that you are:

Worthy. Valued. Loved. 💗

Are you in the midst of look for a job or returning to work? If so, let me know I’m not alone in the comments! 👇🏼👇🏼

Today is my hubby’s birthday!!! I am so grateful for this year with him. This time last year, he/we were preparing for his Stem Cell Transplant. Which also meant praying for the best and preparing for the worst.

This birthday feels especially meaningful.

If you’re in a place of uncertainty right now, I see you, I have been where you are and I am praying for you.

Happy Birthday to my hubby, I’m so grateful to be celebrating this day with you! 💗

❤️

If you’ve been following me for a while, you may wonder how these two pictures go together….you might be thinking wait, I thought you were Non-diet (aka non-diet/fitness culture) so why are you doing all of this exercise and stuff AND sharing it?!

Here’s the deal…Non-diet doesn’t mean non-health. For a long while, I thought that by doing health promoting activities, I wasn’t being try to the non-diet cause….until my hubby go sick and I realized that I actually do need and want to take care of my health, but in a way that is doable for me.

I had health anxiety for over a decade stemming from a heart condition that began while I was training for a triathlon (yes, I used to be that fit).

I suspected that was what I was dealing with, but no medical professional ever offered me treatment for this anxiety…in fact I was gaslit when I mentioned it.

Finally, once all the things got to be too much with my hubby, my mom and caring for my child…a doctor finally took me seriously and prescribed me an anti anxiety medication…which not only helped me cope with my hubby’s illness, but also helped my health anxiety.

I finally started getting back to activities that I enjoyed, like cycling and spin classes… I started biking again, bc my hubby couldn’t (at the time)…it was cathartic and also helped me realize that I don’t need to be afraid of exercise or health to be non-diet. I can take care of myself in ways that feel good and right for me, based on science and not influencers and move the needle towards improved health in my mind, body and spirit.

I still don’t weigh myself.
I do eat based on health and intuition.
I don’t follow wellness influencers.
I do my research.
I do love movement from cycling to strength and many things in between.

I do encourage others to practice health promoting activities based on science and what feels best for them in their current bodies.

and sometimes…you do want to be healthy for your kids, and that’s Ok too!

Health and wellness doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing and it doesn’t have to only be for you. Start where you’re at, and if you need help not getting caught up in the hype of the latest trend, dm me, I can help you. 💗

With the new tariffs on Canada by the USA, I fully support Canadian products and entrepreneurs. If you wish to do the same, I am accepting new clients, from new Mamas to seasoned Grandmas. I have always and plan to continue to charge in CAD to save Canadians from the fluctuating exchange rate. First and foremost, I am a proud Canadian and look forward to supporting you in your motherhood journey. I can refer you to other Canadian Mama-run businesses that support you along the way, too. Thank you for considering Canadian small businesses in your search for assistance in Motherhood and beyond. 💗🍁

Not my usual content, but I know many of you may have experience and I’m hoping to connect with you….
Friends,
Since my hubby was diagnosed with AML Leukemia and I juggled mothering, housekeeping, dog-momming, all while supporting Howard in and out of the hospital, with some incredible help from friends….

I realized that there aren’t many organizations (if any, I couldn’t find any in my extensive research in Calgary) that provide low or no cost help for parents or partners of someone going through Cancer or other challenging situations or grief.

If you haven’t personally experienced this, the best way I can describe it, is that it’s like wearing a weighted blanket (with the weight varying day-to-day and hour-by-hour) and sometimes walking through deep sand….while trying to do the things that need to be done to care for your kid(s), pets, house, yard (blood cancer pts can’t do yard work for at least a year post-transplant)….mostly on your own, looking through fog and trying to support your loved one being treated.

Fortunately, we are privileged enough that we could hire people/professionals to help…but many families are not that lucky.

So, while this is maybe not the best time for me to be planning this (with my upcoming Nursing re-cert exam) it just keeps being highlighted that I want to gather businesses and people who are willing to either donate or volunteer their time, or make a donation to hire this type of help for the partners/spouses/ care supporters of people going through cancer, focusing on blood cancers (there is little support out there for the unique needs of these families), and those who are grieving.

I don’t quite know HOW to do this, but it is on my mind and my heart. So, if you have any experience in charity/foundation/ fundraising work or would like to volunteer/donate, please let me know, in comments or pm me, and once I have more of a plan, I’ll let you know.

Thank you for reading all of this!
My heart to yours,
Gillian 🧡

It’s Thanksgiving. I have so much to be thankful for this year. Every occasion that my hubby is here for is an extra celebration of gratitude!

Last night we had dinner with my parents in their home.

Last year, my hubby was recovering from Covid and I had dinner (pizza) with my parents outside the hospital where my Mom (who has Alzheimer’s) was recovering from a fall and broken hip. I am SO Thankful this year looks much better.

I also know some of you are hurting today. Please know that I see you and I am holding you and yours in my prayers and in my heart. I am here for you. I am more attuned to suffering than ever before.
🧡🍁🍂🧡

Another Meme 😂

Bounce-Back culture is SO ‘00’s. We’re in the 2020s! Previous generations of mothers may have believed they had to “bounce back” from becoming mothers, in body, career, and self…Not any more!!!

Matrescence is the process of evolution from who you were before having a baby to becoming the matriarch, Mother! Embracing all that Matrescence is mind, body, and spirit, will bring you into who you have always meant to be…

There’s no turning back, there’s only forward, evolved and enlightened!

I’ve been playing around with making Memes this evening 😂

The one thing I coach Moms on the most is the pressure they feel to work as if they don’t have kids and mother as if they don’t work. That if they can’t give it all to their kids, they’re criticized and if they can’t give it all to their work, they’re criticized and often are overlooked for promotions….the maternal wall.

This pressure from society puts so many moms (and dads) in a tough spot.

What if you could side step all of this pressure and find a different path that honors your roles and yourself? This is Matrescence…the becoming of your full self Mind, Body and Spirit.

Let go of the pressures of society and step into your full power. 💗✨

I went on a little outing with just myself today. I needed to get out of my house and out of my mind. I went to a botanical garden near me. It was beautiful to get out and get some fresh air.

Sometimes it feels hard being the main one to set the tone in the family.

Sometimes it feels hard being the one to establish and maintain a compassionate and nurturing home environment when those around you don’t seem to be trying.

We wonder, where is my care and compassion? How come I’m the one doing all the work?

Here’s the truth I received today. In order to give compassion and nurturance to others we must first give it to ourselves. The only way we know how to give these, is by giving them to ourselves first.

If you’re on the path of creating a new environment in your home, keep going, give yourself the care and compassion first and know that you are not alone.
