There’s soooo so so so much you can practice while leading your horse, not to mention, you’ll improve your posture exponentially.

I grew up showing in a lot of Halter and Showmanship classes and while it’s not an absolute standard, it has been very helpful in the brickwork of communication between me and whatever horse I’m working with. Ideally, I’d recommend at least 10min of ground work in addition to riding.

Just like riding, and any communication, consistency is KEY. Slow down, see where your body is positioned, where your energy level is, and how the horse responds. You can build cues on the consistency of your posture, ask and release. YYEEE HAWW!!

I cut off my thought by accident — horses that are more vocal about their distaste in how you’re sitting or your inconsistencies are a blessing in disguise! While it can be frustrating, you’ll learn faster on these horses. This horse, for example, will kick out her back end if youre clenching in certain spots or you’re unintentionally giving too many cues at once. Try to isolate parts of your body to see where you’re “cheating”
