Today, December 3, 2025, in partnership with Saskatchewan Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services, we recognize the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This day celebrates the achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities and reaffirms our shared commitment to building a province that is accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.
Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3 marks the — a day to celebrate inclusion and advocate for equality worldwide. Today, we join communities around the globe in standing for a future where everyone can fully participate, contribute, and belong.
Under the 2025 theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies to advance social progress,” we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the linguistic and human rights of Deaf people.
As the Deaf Children’s Society of BC moves toward closure, our mission and values remain deeply rooted. Our advocacy does not end here. We continue to raise awareness, champion early language access, and uphold the right of every Deaf child to sign, thrive, and be included.
Together, let’s continue building a world where Deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere.

Ten years ago, the World Federation of the Deaf shared a message that continues to resonate deeply:
“Language Deprivation is the ultimate poverty of the soul.”
Today, these words remain as powerful and urgent as ever.
As we reflect on a decade since this message was first shared, we are reminded that language access is not optional — it is a fundamental human right. For Deaf children, early exposure to sign language is essential for healthy development, identity, and belonging.
Even as the Deaf Children’s Society of BC moves toward closure, our commitment to raising awareness and advocating for the rights of Deaf children remains steadfast.
Let these words continue to guide us.
Let them continue to spark action.
Let them remind us why we fight for language equity every single day.
No Deaf child should ever face language deprivation.

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, , which promotes inclusive education in schools, colleges and universities, celebrating our linguistic rights, advocating for our human rights, social integration and put an end to stigma and stereotyping against people with disabilities.
Ryan V. Parkinson, a Deaf Canadian, has a quote that sums up why we advocate for change in the world.
"Language deprivation is the ultimate poverty of the soul."
United, we can advocate for the world to be a better place for us Deaf people to live in. Let's spread the hashtags below to raise the awareness:

🌟 Thank You, Alyana & Erin from Lila & Pip! 🌟
A heartfelt thank you to Alyana and Erin, the owners of Lila & Pip, for joining us and sharing their beautiful rhymes, rhyme cards, and tote bags with our families yesterday.
Your creativity and generosity added so much joy and meaning to our final DCS playgroup. 💛
Your rhymes support Deaf and CODA children in developing cognitive awareness of ASL parameters, including important phonological foundations. Resources like yours help our children grow with pride, language, and connection.
What an incredible and memorable last playgroup for DCS on our final day of operations. Thank you for helping us close this chapter with warmth, community, and celebration. 🩵💛💙
