LeaderSHIFT UCCan Shifting Times, Courageous Leadership:
supporting United Church of Canada clergy and leaders.

Being a leader in a faith community means being authentic, creative, and adaptive to changing situations.Pacific Mountain Regional Council of the United Church of Canada’s LeaderShift program exists to support United Church leaders to gain and improve the inner and outer skills to lead faithfully, mentor others, and innovate to their context. LeaderShift offers three types of support: training through workshops, retreats and webinars, individual coaching, and on-site consulting services. These subsidized supports are available to any and all paid accountable United Church of Canada Ministry Personnel within the Pacific Mountain Regional Council
The Goals of LeaderShift are to:

~ Equip leaders with the skills to lead in a changing context and in a variety of context
~ Help leaders develop the personal and spiritual skills to lead transformation within their communities of faith and to be mindful spiritual leaders
~ Ensure leaders have peer support and places of retreat to avoid burn-out and isolation
~ Offer new tools and approaches so leaders can practice innovation and birth the next phase of Christian spiritual community in this place and time.

The October 2-4, 2026 Rural Ministry Conference features practical workshops for today’s rural and small church ministry contexts.

Growth and Stewardship Animator Rev. Scott Reynolds will lead the workshop, Stewardship: Inviting Generosity. We’ll engage the teachings of Jesus, who frequently spoke about money, to talk about practical steps to encourage generosity in your community of faith, and name some of the resources and accompaniment available to you through the stewardship programs the wider church offers.

We are excited to welcome Rev. Catherine Smith, all the way from New Brunswick! Catherine has been passionate about the gifts and possibilities of rural ministry for many years, and has developed many resources, as well as an annual conference, Rural Routes Through the Holy, to support this ministry.

We are deeply disturbed by the reported assault on Imam Ebrahim Ali of BCMA Masjid Al Iman in Victoria. We condemn this act of violence unequivocally. Violent actions against people because of their faith or identity violate the dignity of all people and have no place in our Region.

We hold Imam Ebrahim, his family, and the Muslim community in Victoria in our prayers as he recovers from his injuries.

Imam Ebrahim serves as the Muslim Spiritual Care Provider at the University of Victoria Multifaith Centre, where our Campus United ministry joins with others in fostering dialogue, friendship, and mutual understanding across faith traditions. We have witnessed firsthand the power of these relationships and the strength they bring to our campus and our wider community.

Pacific Mountain Regional Council stands in solidarity with Imam Ebrahim, BCMA Masjid Al Iman, and Muslim communities across our region. As followers of Jesus, we believe our neighbour is never defined by religion, ethnicity, or background. In moments of division and fear, we are called to love boldly, stand against hatred. We denounce all forms of Islamophobia and recommit to building communities where all people can live and worship in safety and peace.
