Internal tours help us better understand how our work connects and how we can support students throughout their BCIT journey.

We stopped by the joinery shop yesterday to see what students have been working on and it did not disappoint!

Each project is unique, but all carry the same level of care, detail, and technical skill.

A great way to wrap up their time in the program - it must have been such a proud moment all around 🥹

Breena has been part of the community since 2016, bringing hands-on expertise as a Red Seal Joiner along with a passion for teaching, equity in the trades, and student success.

Her work in sustainable construction and mass timber reflects a strong commitment to building a more inclusive and environmentally responsible future 🌱

Meet Barbara James (Ma̲lidzas) 🛠️
Red Seal Carpenter, BCIT alum, and now a Carpentry Instructor in our School of Construction and the Environment - Barbara brings community, culture, and care into everything she builds.

From sharing net-zero building knowledge with Indigenous communities to supporting students in the classroom, she leads by example - creating spaces grounded in respect, intention, and connection.

Her approach reflects how we show up at BCIT through the IDEAS Lens -building environments where people feel supported and can thrive.

This National Indigenous History Month, we’re proud to share her story.
