From a classroom assignment to the streets of White Rock🌟
When Georgia Paz was assigned to design a street banner in her Graphic Design Process class at BCIT, she probably didn’t know where that project would take her.
After receiving thoughtful feedback and practical guidance from her instructor, Georgia decided to put her skills to the test and enter the City of White Rock’s street banner competition.
And she won! Her design was selected as one of eight winning entries, earning a monetary prize and, even more excitingly, the opportunity to see her work displayed along West Beach in White Rock for the spring/summer season through 2028.
For Georgia, seeing her design out in the community has been more than an exciting achievement — it has been a major confidence boost and a reminder of what she can accomplish as a designer.
“I have enjoyed how practical the courses have been. This has made it easier to explore how I could apply what I am learning in a real-world context and has given me confidence to put myself out there and try things like this banner competition.”
That’s the power of practical learning: take what you learn, put it into action, and see where it can take you.
At BCIT, Georgia didn’t just learn about the design process. She had the opportunity to practice it, receive real feedback, and build the confidence to take her work beyond the classroom. And now, her work is part of the White Rock community.
