What happens when more than 300 alumni and community members come together to talk about AI?

A lot of curiosity, learning, and inspiration.

Thank you to everyone who joined the BCIT Alumni Association's From AI-Overwhelmed to AI-Empowered workshop. We were delighted by the tremendous response and engagement from attendees eager to learn practical ways to save time, improve their work, and use AI with greater confidence.

A heartfelt thank you to AI educator and BCIT alumna El Wong for sharing her knowledge, insights, and approachable guidance throughout the session. El helped transform AI from something that can feel overwhelming into a tool participants can use with purpose and confidence.

Building a better tomorrow has always been a driving force for Andrey Lykov. Since the start of his professional development back in Russia, Andrey’s passion for expanding high-performance and sustainable infrastructure has been at the forefront of his journey. His desire to improve the world around him has been a constant even throughout his time at BCIT.

Before completing the Master of Applied Science in Building Engineering/Building Science program, Andrey co-founded the BCIT Building Science Club, creating not just a thriving community, but a lasting network that connects students and industry professionals. Through his leadership, Andrey created new opportunities for current and future students, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to enrich student experiences at BCIT.

At the 2026 Vision Awards, BCIT will honour Andrey with an Outstanding Student Leadership Award, in recognition of his contributions to the BCIT community, on October 29th.
