✨Meet the team ✨

🏆Aman recently completed her Bachelors in psychology with honours. She hopes to pursue a masters and PhD in Clinical neuropsychology.

📚She’s interested in evaluating the intersection of behavioural responses, societal influences, and neurobiology of the brain.

🔭In the future, she’d like to apply her training and knowledge to help improve accuracy and reliability of current diagnostic methodology and treatment modalities for mental health disorders.

Are you interested in getting involved with the peer review and publication process? We are currently recruiting at the Undergraduate Journal of Psychology (UJP) for both managing editors and section editors. These positions are great experience in learning more about the peer review and publication process! Plus, it can be an asset on graduate school applications.

The managing editor provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience. This is a 1 year commitment and provides you with the opportunity to oversee the promotion and operation of the journal from submissions to publication while leading a team of section editors.

The section editor position is a 2-3 month commitment and involves reviewing several journal submissions for acceptance under the direction of the journal managers.

Requirements:
- SFU Psychology major in the upper division
- Completed psych 300 with a minimum grade of A-
- Other peer review, peer tutor, or research experience is an asset!

Last but not least, introducing our third managing editor, Natasha Usenko! Natasha is currently completing her final semester at Simon Fraser University. She is completing her Honors thesis under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Douglas, investigating the construct of boldness within psychopathy and its association with maladaptive s*xual and relational behaviors (e.g. s*xual/relational coercion, assertiveness, and violence), and will continue to work under his supervision in her graduate studies beginning in the fall. Beyond volunteering in the Douglas Research Lab, she is also working alongside Dr. Maaike Helmus conducting s*x offender research. Broadly, her research interests include serious and violent offenders, s*xual offenders, psychopathy, and violent risk assessment and management.

Introducing our second managing editor, Kelsey Alexander. Kelsey is currently completing her honours thesis under the supervision of Dr. Jodi Viljoen and Dr. Tonia Nicholls. Her project explores incidents of unauthorized leaves from a secure inpatient forensic psychiatric hospital. It is hoped that the findings of this thesis project will be used to gain a better understanding of these incidents and how to prevent them in the future, as well as reduce the stigma surrounding forensic patients. Kelsey has an interest in forensic psychology, particularly risk assessment and management. She hopes to obtain a graduate degree to aid in pursuing a career where she can make a difference through bettering policy and practice for those experiencing mental health challenges.

Meet one of our 2021 managing editors, Spencer Chen! Spencer is completing her honours thesis at the Intergroup Relations and Social Justice Lab under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Wright. Her honours thesis explores the psychological mechanisms that lead to the dehumanization of su***de attempt survivors. Spencer is interested in social and clinical psychology. She hopes to eventually become a clinical psychologist and contribute towards eliminating su***de through research and clinical practice. Spencer also cares deeply about social justice and hopes to improve the mental health care system and reduce the stigma of mental illness.
