Competing at JDC West in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The competition was the culmination of months of hard work, and seeing it all come together alongside an incredible team made the experience incredibly rewarding. Working with some of the brightest students at SFU Beedie and learning from amazing coaches made the journey just as meaningful as the competition itself, and it's an experience I'll always be grateful for.

Jamal Siddiqui (BBA ‘02) views volunteering at LAUNCH as an opportunity to help students see new possibilities. As a Product Director at the National Bank of Canada, he enjoys mentoring first-year students to connect their ambitions with their own unique path.

What started as a chance to volunteer alongside his daughter has become a meaningful way to stay connected to the SFU Beedie community, give back year after year, and build new connections with fellow alumni.

"The intersection of youthful energy with experience presents great opportunities," shares Siddiqui. "If you're thinking about volunteering, give it a try."

🌎 Discover what it's like to study business at Koç Üniversitesi with finance and international business student Patrick Handra!

Patrick reflects, "Looking back, my exchange at Koç University was about much more than studying abroad. It was about stepping outside my comfort zone, embracing new experiences, and making the most of every opportunity. Over five months, I had the chance to explore some of the most beautiful places across Türkiye and beyond, experience different cultures, and build friendships with people from around the world that I will always be grateful for. Every destination, conversation, and new experience shaped this journey in its own way. I came home with unforgettable memories, a broader perspective, and friendships that will last well beyond my time abroad. If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second."

🔦 Meet our student spotlight of the week, Michael Gudz! Michael is a third-year Business and Computer Science joint-major student involved in many organizations on campus, most notably Second Savour, Enactus SFU, and SFU JDC WEST. This past year, Michael was a Project Manager at Enactus, leading Next Spark and contributing to winning Organization of the Year at the BASS Celebration Gala. Outside of SFU, Michael is part of the Cansbridge Scholars program. This fall, he will be starting a new job as a Product Manager Intern at RBC.

📌 What’s your favourite thing about going to SFU Beedie?

How incredibly nice everyone is. Culture and community are great; people are open to sharing and helping out. Especially in my first year, navigating university life wasn't easy, but I was surrounded by great people who helped me along the way and helped me find my footing at Beedie!

📌 What’s the best way to make connections and get involved at SFU Beedie?

Go to events, sign up for clubs, case comps, programs. Anything and everything is way better than doing nothing. I'd say put the fear behind you; so what if your friends aren't going? Take the leap of faith by signing up because you never know what you'll learn and who you'll meet. That way of thinking has been really helpful for me.

📌 What’s something you wish you knew before starting university?

I wish I was aware of my environment and the people at SFU Beedie, specifically the faculty and staff ready to support me in so many different ways. I'm a huge fan of the Career Management Centre, and I think they do amazing work. The people there were all extremely helpful, knowledgeable and encouraging when it came to finding my first co-op.

🔦 Meet our student spotlight of the week, Sara Guglielmini! Sara is a fourth-year BBA student concentrating in Accounting. She recently wrapped up her term as President of the SFU Accounting Student Association after four years of involvement. She also competed with SFU JDC WEST in the Accounting discipline this past January. Beyond her involvement at Beedie, she completed an internship in Audit at Deloitte, where she will return full-time this September while completing her CPA.

📌 What’s the best way to make connections and get involved at SFU Beedie?

As an accounting student, the best decision I made was getting involved with SFU ASA in my first year. I learned so much from upper-year accounting students while being exposed to networking events and mentorship from the very start of my academic journey.

📌 What’s something you wish you knew before starting university?

Just how quickly time would fly. It feels like yesterday that I was starting my first year, and now I’m preparing to wrap up my degree next month. Looking back, I’ve realized how important it is to make the most of every opportunity, appreciate the time with people around you, and enjoy each stage of the journey. You’ll be surprised just how quickly the next chapter arrives.

📌 What’s your current ?

Taking home two Student Engagement Awards for SFU ASA this past May. Being able to celebrate the dedication and hard work of all my executives and coordinators was incredibly rewarding. It was truly the perfect way to end off my Beedie journey.
