The children have been fascinated by the leaves changing colors. For circle we read an interesting book by Betsey Maestro 'Why do leaves chance colors.' The key points: why do leaves need to grow,? What gives the leaf it's green color? Vocabulary: chlorophyll, pigment

During our walks we observe the different varieties of trees in our neighbourhood and try to identify the trees by their leaves (oak, red maple, aspen, birch etc)
The children enjoy collecting leaves and are learnig to name the parts of a leaf(Apex, midrib, veins, blade, petiole and stipule)

The next time you go for a walk try and name the beautiful leaves!
