Registration is open for fall courses in British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Associate Certificate in Polytechnic Teaching. Three courses are being offered this fall:

POLY 1015 – Assessment of Learning
POLY 1020 – Teaching with Educational Technology
Courses offer credit transfer to the Provincial Instructor’s Diploma Program at Vancouver Community College (VCC).

This innovative tool by the Commonwealth of Learning has been designed to support individuals and institutions in the development of courses. It covers eight categories and supporting quality elements that can be used to benchmark the features of a blended learning course against a set of qualifiers. The Rubric should be used iteratively and throughout the design and subsequent delivery of a blended learning course. As an under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license, the Rubric may be modified, etc. to suit local needs and contexts. http://hdl.handle.net/11599/3615

When teaching online instructor presence is crucial to establishing community through social connections. Additionally, when presenting information through video or multimedia, a visible instructor who gestures, or provides other visible cues to guide attention can support learning.

Students deserve privacy in these times of remote teaching. Just because students faces are seen, does not mean teachers can tell they are learning!
We made/make many attributions for why a zoom camera may not be on in a remote class. Here is some data highlighting key differences between underrepresented minoritized students and non-URM. Also note, the general category of 'not paying full attention' is at the bottom of list.
