Little hands, big imaginations 🌿🐦
Our little learners created their own “bird watching station” using natural materials, teamwork, and so much curiosity. From building cozy nests to observing the world around them, moments like these remind us that learning happens best when children are free to explore, create, and connect with nature.

Little hands creating magic from the outdoors 🌿✨
Nature potions, flower petals, muddy fingers, and imaginations blooming freely. Some childhood memories are made in the quiet moments spent exploring the world around us.

Some of the best learning happens in the quiet moments — a stick in the water, curious hands, and time to simply explore. 🌿💧
At Deer Lake Childcare, we believe children learn through wonder, play, and connection with the world around them.

Tiny hands discovering the beauty of nature, one flower at a time 🌿✨
Today’s invitation to play was filled with petals, leaves, textures, colours, and curiosity. As the children explored together, they practiced patience, creativity, conversation, and connection through a simple shared experience with the natural world.
Some moments in early childhood don’t need big plans or loud activities. Just flowers, water, wonder, and the freedom to explore. 🤍

A little adventure to the library 📚✨
Our small group loved exploring new books, sharing stories together, and practicing our community skills along the way. From choosing books to riding the bus together, every outing becomes a chance to learn, connect, and grow 🤍

There’s something special about children creating their own little worlds.
With just sticks, leaves, and imagination, this space became a home, a cave, a story.
Moments like this build more than structures.
They build confidence, creativity, and connection to the outdoors.

Little scientists at work 🔍🌱
Exploring our seed starters with magnifying glasses sparked so much curiosity today. We talked about what seeds need to grow, made predictions about which ones will sprout first, and practiced patience as we wait and observe.
Moments like these support early science skills, language development, and a sense of wonder about the natural world 🌿✨
Learning doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful, sometimes it starts with a tiny seed.

Process art at its best 🎨
Inspired by Where the Wild Things Are, the children created their own unique masks using paint, feathers, and a variety of loose parts. Each one tells its own story, no two are the same.
It’s not about the final product, but the creativity, choices, and imagination that happen along the way. Watching their ideas come to life is always the most magical part.

Bringing stories to life 🎨📖
After reading Where the Wild Things Are, the children created their own “wild things” using markers and imagination. From big eyes to fiery details, each creation was as unique as the storyteller behind it.
It’s always so special to see how stories inspire creativity in their own way 💛

Field trips don’t end when we get back.
After taking the bus and SkyTrain to Granville Island, the highlight of the day became recreating the stations and tracks in the sand. With sticks, puddles, and lots of imagination, the children mapped out their own version of the SkyTrain system.
Outdoor play becomes storytelling, problem solving, and reliving shared adventures together.
Learning through play, one track at a time.
