JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Day Care Worker A assists in the planning and delivery of child care programs (for assigned age groupings) within the applicable legal, financial and safety framework.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
• Assists with the planning and implementation of appropriate aged-based activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction and personal development
• May assist in conducting intake interviews and orientating new participants and family; provides on-going feedback on child’s development and behavior
• May network with other day cares, schools, community centers, churches and social services agencies for the benefit of the children and the program
• Ensures that all information about children, family, staff, visitors and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are confidentially secured
• Assists with effective risk management; monitors food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid and completes reports and files incident reports as required
• Role models appropriate behaviors and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family
• Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with children and families, endeavoring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as opportunity presents (including linking families to the church family and church programs where possible)
• Works with the Supervisor to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements; ensures full compliance with child protection legislation and intervenes when necessary
• May provide transportation for children to/from school or field trip sites
• Performs other duties as assigned
NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
Education/Certifications:
• The successful job applicant will have completed more than two (2) years of Community College.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Experience:
• The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including experience in a childcare environment, and communicating orally.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
The successful applicant will hold/have:
• Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
• More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience in a childcare environment, and communicating orally.
• Appropriate Current Driver’s License
• Immunization for Hepatitis B
• Vaccination against Tuberculosis
• Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
The performance of the job requires frequently lifting/moving equipment and children, and room set-up, moderate amount of teaching, leading etc, and occasional computer work, intervening in physical confrontations, cleaning the facility and putting up wall displays.
The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds.
The performance of the job requires attentive listening (Meetings with Parents, Interviews, Discipline, Attentive to Children, etc.), preparing materials, crafts, snacks etc, and occasionally assisting with program planning, and concentrating on computer work/record keeping.
The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees (students).
The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:
• Exposure to dirty diapers
• Exposure to communicable diseases
• Verbal Abuse
• Tantrums
• Noise
HOURS: 10am – 6pm from July 4-Sept 2 & 7:30am-9pm and 2:30-6pm from September 6 – onward
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
• Early Childhood Education Certification or Child Youth Counsellor Diploma or equivalent program (specific to age group served)

We are a before and after school care facility for children ages 5-12 located in Burnaby, B.C. We serve Seaforth and Armstrong Elementery schools.
