You must know the beginning, if not go and find it. If you are the type that likes skip to the good part, then keep reading.
It was around this time when we went to the drawing board to waterpaint some ideas on our mental canvas - business ideas that could lead us to a startup that would let us to realizing our ideas. We made like a little notebook of ideas - using pen and paper. Walks around Burnaby Mountain and all these fresh ideas would pop up - city-wide game competitions, cure for eye soreness, gift boxes for mental health, and dozens of other ideas that we brainstormed. We would setup a 10 minute timer and come up with them, without checking anything on the internet. After we had them down, we woud discuss them one by one and pick out the top 5. Those we looked up online.
What we realized is that we're really into matchmaking platforms. Platforms that would bring 2 or more users together. Almost all the ideas had this aspect into it. We also looked at ourselves and our capacity and network. Who are we to start this? Why us? And who do we know? We did have a couple of mentors in our networks, only a VC back then, and that was it. But we realized our biggest unique advantage is that we are students. And A) We are not bogged down by the miseries of adults in their day-to-day lives and B) We got a huge network of bright students in our network. Not just a student I started calling myself around that time. And this story is from my point of view by the way.
Matchmaking platform + students. Was there a lot other? Yes and no. Not the way we envisioned it. We set to do all the formalities of creating a business plan, rough UI, and a pitch. But an issue came up: How do we find the right team members?
