😃The sounds available to you on the piano are not limited to what you play with your hands. Piano pedals (those levers at your feet) enrich the sound in many ways, opening up possibilities beyond the keyboard alone – from subtle nuances to more pronounced changes.
👉The types of pedals on a piano
Current acoustic or digital pianos generally have three pedals. Older acoustic pianos have two. In this article, we will explain the effect that each pedal produces on the sound, but also the correct technique for using the pedals and how to locate them on sheet music. Keep in mind that if you're new to piano, you don't need to worry too much about pedals just yet. Their use involves a (relatively) advanced technique and you will not need them right away.

On an acoustic piano, when a finger releases a key, a felt “damper” stops the vibration of the string. The damper pedal – also called a “sustain pedal” – raises the dampers on the strings, allowing notes to vibrate longer, even if the keys are no longer The sustain pedal (middle)
👉Sustain pedal. It is similar to a damper pedal. The main difference is that it only holds the notes already played at the time it is pressed. Any note starting after the pedal is depressed is not affected, allowing selective sustaining without disturbing the sound. This is why, in English, this pedal is also called a “damper pedal”.
