Hello! And welcome to Kollektive 👋🏻

My name is Logan - I am the very always grateful/often tired/frequently inspired/highly motivated owner of this company-turned-community. A little bit about me? Well, shucks! Here it goes:
1. I am the CEO, creative director, admin team, accountant, project planner, assistant, employee, manager, social media content creator, website builder, and many, many other things… But the fuel to my fire lies in getting face-time with children and families and staff (although I wish I loved accounting just a littttllleeeee bit more 🤦🏼‍♀️).
2. I am obnoxiously passionate about alternative approaches to early childhood/elementary education AND supporting caregivers through guiding and caring for children. It is not uncommon for me to cry as I tell my partner about moments I have at Kollektive - because I’m so beautifully overwhelmed with what this company has become and am so proud of the safe space we have built for children/families to grow into themselves (OBNOXIOUSLYYY passionate).
3. I worked in the Early Childhood Education field for 10+ years before having my two kiddos. I swore I would never simultaneously work with children AND raise my own. So I started a business… Where I exclusively work with children while raising my own 🙄 (makeitmakesense).
4. As an entrepreneur who has poured blood, sweat and tears into this sweet baby of a company - I suffer from a condition called ‘my brain takes everything personally’ (other entrepreneurs - please hit me up with the cure for this). For example: You won the lottery and are withdrawing your child to live on a mega yacht in Spain? Personal. Your child is aging out of our program? Personal (how DARE you). You don’t have a child to enroll IN our program? Personal. Also, how DARE you. Sigh* I’m a work in progress 😉
5. I read… Quickly. Averaging a book every 2 days. This cute skill makes reading the most expensive hobby of all time (vintage car collectors have nothing on me). Ebooks and libraries keep things somewhat manageable - but if I ever strike it rich, you’ll know because I’ll build a Beauty and the Beast library and have it filled in no time.
Phew* well, that’s me (a social media fraction of me anyways). Thanks for being here, choosing us and adventuring with us!

To: The Kollektive Kiddos.
I am feeling WORRIED. I am hearing loud ROARS at night - and I don’t know what it is. Do you know what might roar in the night?
From: Little Witch Hazel

We definitely had some ideas! Lions, tigers, dinosaurs, a t-rex, an octopus (🤷🏼‍♀️) - all things that might roar. Do we ever feel worried? What do we do when we are worried to help us feel safe? Sometimes we like to have lights on. Sometimes we like to be with people. Sometimes we like snuggles from our adults. We wrote some ideas out for Witch Hazel and we looked for clues to see what is roaring in the night.

Our Aldergrove Kollektive Kiddos had a busy day…

Teared up while reading - thank you so much, Natalie 🫶🏻

Once upon a time…

A crew of Kollektive Kids settled into river making. Simple, right? Wrong. River making is deeply complicated. Who is making the dam? Who approved the job titles? Who asked for help? Who refused help? Why is everyone fighting? Isn’t forest school supposed to be fun? AUGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Pause.
Everybody.
Group meeting!

The construction crew was instructed to abandon tools and come and ‘play plan’. We LOVE a good play plan. When emotions are high, attentions are scattered and chaos reigns - we utilize play plans to hear ideas, bring focus, create clarity and move FORWARD. Each child shared THEIR idea, we co-created our plan (this is not a tool to implements an adult’s agenda after all - this is a children’s river construction play plan). We then drew/signed off on our roles and reviewed them before jumping into our work.

Guess what!? Our ability to problem solve, collaborate and work within a large team skyrocketed. When issues or confusion arose, we referred to our plan. We settled into our jobs and communicated when our ideas changed.

Play plans. Assisting adults and kiddos since FOREVER 👏🏻 03/26/2024
