The Greg Younging Award in Publishing Studies was established in honor of Dr. Gregory Younging, the first Indigenous Master of Publishing (MPub) graduate, who devoted his life advocating for Indigenous representation and visibility in Canadian Publishing.

This $1000 award is granted annually to an Indigenous undergraduate student enrolled in our Print and Digital Publishing minor program, in an effort to advance and encourage emerging Indigenous publishing figures.

To submit an expression of interest, please contact our program advisor, Jo-Anne Ray: [email protected]. If you are currently enrolled in our minor program, you can also reach out to a publishing professor.

Image Description: The Black Eagle canoe, displayed at The Bill Reid Centre for Northwest Coast Studies at SFU, is a replica of famed dugout canoe Loo Taas (Wave Eater), which Haida artist Bill Reid and his assistants carved from a 750-year-old cedar tree for Expo ’86 hosted by Vancouver, B.C. It is an integral part of Northwest Coast society, and a symbol of cultural identity for Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast.
