This NYT piece has all the academics talking at the moment. The NYT surveyed 37 academics who study education to rank (from 1 to 7) how each idea would have an impact on achievement.

The top three ideas were small group tutoring, science of reading, and universal prek. Some of the lowest ranked ideas? Vouchers, letting teachers use own curriculum, and allowing all students access to AI.

I do love to see that the experts polled ranked small group tutoring and SOR so highly. These two ideas go together. I think pairing SOR and small group tutoring is the best thing we can do at the moment for making a dent in reading achievement.

Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the graphite in an average pencil can write a line about 35 miles long?

That's roughly the length of 130 football fields.

It's pretty amazing to think about how much writing is packed into one little pencil. Proof that great things can come in small packages!

📚 One of the world's oldest surviving literary works is thousands of years old!

The Epic of Gilgamesh dates back more than 4,000 years (around 2100 BCE) and tells the story of a legendary king and his adventures. It was written on clay tablets in ancient Mesopotamia, a historical region of West Asia.

Is your child preparing for a secondary school admission exam? From Saturday, August 29 to all of September, Scholars of Brossard will offer intensive preparation sessions covering the four key areas shown below.

This is our third academic year helping students prepare for secondary school admission exams. Using our in-house curriculum and preparation materials based on previous years’ admission tests, we have received wonderful feedback from participating families!

It's always interesting for educators to see the "click" moment when students realize their current method can only go so far. This grade 1 superstar wanted a challenge, but as the numbers got bigger, our whiteboard got smaller.

We love providing enrichment-level teaching and watching that hunger for knowledge grow!
