Kids Discover With Sue

If you are looking for something fun to do with the kids, come to the Bancroft Gemboree. Ther are UV reactive rocks, the Ontario Science Center has a booth and of course you’ll find all kinds of fun stuff at my booth too.

Are you looking for something fun to do with the kids this summer?

This year for the first time I will be in Picton Ontario. As usually I will have a ton of UV reactive rocks, grow your own crystal kits, fart rocks, fancy crystals and of course faceted gemstones. I hope to see you there.

For an educational and entertaining experience for your students in the 2024-2025 academic year, explore Kids Discover with Sue. The program offers a selection of hands-on activities, including Geology, where students discover volcanoes, dinosaur bones, and glowing rocks; Science, enabling students to become 'mad scientists' and investigate magnetism and light manipulation; and Art, encouraging creative expression and learning concepts like perspective and proportion.

I just finished writing and doing all the photography for my latest book. "The secret world of glowing rocks" It is a 64 page book about science and identification of UV reactive rocks that glow under UV light. The target market for the book is kids 7 to 14. I am working on the cover options now.

Last week in Bancroft, Ontario at the Bancroft Annual Rockhound Gemboree i had the pleasure of getting to know the folk at the Ontario Science Center, where we talked and shared ideas about how to get kids excited about science. I also spent time speaking to Tim Jeffries, a seasoned dinosaur fossil hunter. We talked about “Sue” the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever found and “Scotty” the BIGGEST T-Rex ever found who happens to be from Canada. I’m looking Into getting a plaster replica of one of Scotty’s bones to bring on tour with me.

Wait that’s not all… I was gifted a piece of meteor so now I’ll be able to add “space rocks” to the Kids Discover With Sue, geology program. 2024/25 is going to be a fun year.

Your student are invited to interact with the specimens, conduct experiments, ask questions and share their thoughts and reactions.

It’s the end of another school you and I’m already thinking about ways to make our classroom enrichment programs better.

This year we added a Megladon tooth to our fossil collection and thanks to the teachers at Princess Elizabeth Elementary in Magog we have some beautiful Celenite and a geode.

I was gifted some ash from Mount St-Helen’s and a Helenite gemstone made from mount St-Helen ash. They will be part of next year’s classes.

When you book a geology class with me every kid goes home with a cool rock and some fun memories.

Classes are action packed and hands on. Kids get to hold the amazing mineral specimens, ask questions and participate in being helpers.

They will learn about Volcanos, touch real fossils, do some metal detecting, see all kinds of crystals, and explore glowing UV reactive rocks.

Classes are well organized and fun. All of the set up and clean up is taken care of.
