Grade 4-6 students at Eastbrook Elementary recently met some of the people who help keep our community safe! 🚒🚑

Members of EMS, Brooks Fire Department, Brooks RCMP, and City of Brooks Peace Officers visited the school to talk about their work and answer students’ questions.

Thank you to everyone who took time to visit and to Brooks & Newell Safe Communities for sharing these photos!

Each week, Bassano School Grade 6 students visit the Grades 1-3 classrooms to read together. The younger students choose the books, and their older buddies help with tricky words, listen and offer encouragement along the way.

It’s a chance to practise reading and get to know someone from another grade. For the younger students, having a “big kid” who knows their name and takes time to read with them can mean a lot.

We love seeing moments like these in our schools. Thanks to Bassano for sharing! 📚

Griffin Park School's music room has some new sounds! 🎶 A $19,000 grant through the MusiCounts BandAid Program helped replace instruments students have been playing since the school opened in the 1980s.

Grade 2 student Esme Bernhard summed up the need in her letter supporting the application: she wanted to “play an instrument that doesn’t go thunk!”

Students in Grades 1-5 are now enjoying the new instruments and hearing the difference for themselves.

A big thank you to Ms. Jensen for her work securing the grant, Esme and Assistant Superintendent Katie Graham for their letters of support, and MusiCounts for supporting Griffin Park’s music program!

A new multi-sport field at Brooks Junior High School is one step closer! 🏈⚽

Brooks Community Football has secured nearly $1.5 million through the Government of Alberta’s Active Communities Initiative grant to help build a field turf complex for football, soccer, field lacrosse and rugby.

Targeted for completion in fall 2027, the complex will serve students, youth and residents across Brooks and the County of Newell.

Grasslands is supporting the project by providing the land and securing architectural and civil engineering plans. Thank you to BCF, the Government of Alberta, the City of Brooks and the County of Newell for helping move this community project forward!
